Fixed my light strike issues
Written on Jul 25, 2024
I've got a first Gen M&P9 CORE w/ the full Apex trigger kit in it and several thousand rounds plus several thousand dry fires on it. In the past several months I started experiencing the occasional failure to fire that progressed to about a 1% failure rate on failure to fire across multiple brands of ammo. Inspection of the unfired cartridges confirmed a light primer strike. I figured I'd throw some money at this striker as a long shot, "just in case..." Simple install on a CORE slide. Imagine my surprise to find DEEP, solid hits on primers of the freshly spent cases! If a cartridge won't fire getting hit that hard now, it won't fire in anything... On top of that, the new striker didn't adversely affect my trigger feel to much. There's a little bit of a hitch in the trigger pull now where there wasn't with the Apex USB, but not enough to matter functionally running drills. This got my main gun back in the fight nicely. Might have to pick up a few more for my other M&Ps now... Good stuff!

Not a fan...

If you like "nice" triggers, this is not the one. I shoot this back and forth between my KIDD $100 single stage 10/22 trigger and CZ457 and I swear it feels like I have to pull twice what either of those triggers are. I've always ran RRA 2 stages in my ARs - cheap & effective and wanted to try a flat face single stage drop in unit to see what all the rage is about. Not at all a fan of this unit - it's going to the parts bin...
