Works fine, but why $50?

Written on Feb 09, 2025

I added this to a Unity riser and it works just like you’d expect. My only gripe is it’s expensive for what it really is. Others can disagree, but once you get it in your hand, it makes other parts of similar cost seem like a much better value.

14.5” Black 223

Written on Jan 20, 2025

I picked up the 14.5” wylde barrel with the “black Teflon” finish.

You’ll have to go to the JP website to really see the difference finish options with detail.

I splurged for the upgraded finish and I was a little let down. It’s a matte slightly rough finish, not slick or shiny. Someone at JP must have test fit a gas block as there was drag marks on the finish you could easily see. Not a big deal, hopefully it holds up under the hand guard.

The barrel extension looked no different than any other brand. I don’t know why I was expecting some more detailed machine work - this is not their BCG.

Considering you get a headspaced bolt and all the other features, this barrel is a great value.

Im really looking forward to testing it out.

To start, I’m a huge JP fan. I have at least 1 JP product on all my AR’s, mostly BCG’s. This is the first time I’ve purchased a JP product and I was disappointed.

The packaging arrived in the mail in great condition. I cut the sticker and open the white JP box, unwrapped the bubble wrap… multiple long gouges on the top and bottom of the mount. One over an inch long, down past the anodization digging into the aluminum, curled metal flaking up. I’m not complaining of a minor blemish, this mount was banged up good before JP somehow put it in the box and didn’t notice… I waited a while for this to get here before Christmas… let down.

If it had not been damaged, I would say it’s light weight and appears sturdy. Not as high as other offerings that are popular these days.

Great! Now offer it in 45*.

I got this as part of the JP cassette trigger kit. By itself, it’s not worth $70. Paired along with the JP trigger? It’s a “matched” set. It has a special groove cut to match the JP trigger, making it solid when you pull the trigger with the safety on, it’s literally engaged.

If I was to guess, theres not a 45* option available because it’s very easy to manipulate compared to others.

Undercover heavy hitter.

I ordered this carrier with a 12% off coupon and paid $84 out the door.

I had to wait about 2 weeks for it to arrive. Like other SA products, I noticed it was nicely packaged, came with instructions, and machined perfectly. Very few tooling marks on non-bearing surfaces.

The DLC looks the same as their piston carriers. The insert that came in the package states that both the carrier and gas key are chrome lined, then DLC coated.

The tail is flared and the top bearing surfaces on the front of the carrier extend all the way to the barrel extension.

I’ll be paring this with a JP bolt for completion.

Nice fit and finish

Written on Sep 11, 2024

I’ve purchased the nitride WMD castle nut many times and they always have a nice fit and finish in a consistent shade of black.

Much nicer looking than the average mag phosphate castle nut.

Compared to significantly more expensive nitride options, I think this is a fantastic value and adds a subtle classy touch. Will purchase more.

Pricey, for what it is…

First off, I know, shame on me… but this trigger is made in Turkey. For $10-$15 more, I could have purchased a nicer US made trigger. I wish I had.

The trigger itself appears like it’ll work fine, probably, but I bet this thing didn’t cost MIMTAC more than $20USD to get this to the US market. The hammer and trigger are MIM of course, and everything else looks like it’s of marginal quality. The little tension set screws it comes with are of poor quality.

I’d say MIMTAC is making money hand over fist getting products made in Turkey, and sold for comparable US manufacture prices. I’d say unless you’re absolutely that broke, save $15 for a US trigger that’s on sale.

Solid 2 stage

Written on Jul 13, 2024

I bought this trigger after growing impatient from the wait time for a TT diamond AR-10 2 stage trigger. I easily canceled the TT order and placed a new order for the Timney.

The first one that arrived failed to reset. Timney was easy to deal with and gave me a replacement NQA. The replacement works fantastic. The pull is light and feels as advertised, crisp undramatic breaks, detectable subtle resets. Nothing about is annoying to potentially distract you from your shot.

It’s pricey, so I’d say overall this product performs on-par for the cost and should perform/feel at the level it does. Better feel (IMO) than my G$, CMC, or LaRue 2 stage FCGs. Curious to compare it to a TT Diamond 2 stage.

Do people need to read?

I was searching for a high quality, medium profile, chrome lined barrel, and decided on this one. I don’t understand other negative reviews. It’s very easy to read the details for this product line and find out its weight and description.

If you don’t want an HBAR, but want something thicker than a Government profile, and don’t want to spend more than mid 200’s, this is it IMO. I’ve seen other brands offer similar products but call them “SoCom” profiles.

The chrome job is beautiful. I’ve shot many Criterion barrels in the past with the .223 wylde 1:8 setup and they were tac drivers, I expect this one to be the same.

Its actually TINY!

Written on Mar 03, 2024

I got this to help make adjustments on my optics. I discovered it when I was reading about the B5 Systems grip plugs, which have a slot for batteries or this tool (it just slips in the middle of it). It’s a little pricey but appears to be well made.
I haven’t actually used it to comment on functionality, however, it’s the size it needs to be for manipulation so I imagine it will work just as good as anything else.
