Best prism optic for the price, period

Written on Feb 08, 2020

I bought this optic over five years ago. Sighted it in for a 50/200 yard zero. Haven't changed the batteries out yet, mainly because the black reticle is easily picked up, even with my 58 year old, slightly astigmatic eyes. I've even moved this optic on and off my AR-15, and it still holds zero. I will change out the battery soon, if only to ensure it hasn't corroded. The battery still works well, in both red and green configurations. Rugged, accurate, and if you set eye relief right, i.e, rail mount and adjustment of your stock it won't let you down. Makes shooting with both eyes open a breeze at distance, and close quarters. The only con, and it's minor is you should definitely loctite the mount to the optic, in addition to the rail mounts to prevent it from falling off the rifle.

Initial impressions are favorable

Written on Jan 30, 2020

I purchased the Holosun RMR because of all of the positive reviews on YouTube. Though I've yet to mount this to my Poly80 P940C build, initial mock up looks good. The functions were easy to learn, and the 2 MOA dot is clear and visible at even the lowest non-NVG setting. Build quality appears to be solid, and the included picattiny mount is a plus. Looking forward to seeing, and putting it through its paces.

NOTE: This review is of Gen 3 Micro Roni stabilizer Glock Pistol Carbine Conversion

Written on May 09, 2018

First, let me say that this PCC chassis is exactly as the reviews said it would be. That would include the YouTube videos from CAA Gear Up, 704 Tactical, and their comments sections. Here's the run down: 1) the fit is secure with my Glock 17 (it will not work with Poly80 lowers as built); 2) construction is solid, but there are some sharp surfaces near grip/thumb position that are easily smoothed out with fine grit sandpaper; 3) the folding brace that comes with the Gen 3 is a bit short for a good cheek weld (I remedied that by buying the extended stabilizer from CAA for another $75; 4) the slide lock/release mechanism doesn't work very well; 5) the gen 3 is only compatible with either Glock 19/23/32 or Glock 17/22/31 (not both), and; 6) like many commented, the "charging handle" has potential to come off when dismounting your pistol from the frame. This presents more of a problem if you use the SBR version, so I'm not too concerned. However, CAA did fix issues 3, 4, 5 and 6 stated above in their next generation design. Had that version been available at the time of purchase, I would have gone that route.

Great buy as part of a set

Written on May 09, 2018

I purchased these front sights to compliment the Micro Roni Gen 3 Stabilizer version I purchased on Optics Planet. They were of equal or better quality of the sights offered by CAA, and the set price for front and rear sights through Optics Planet was cheaper as well. They are back ups to a Bushnell TRS-25 RDS, mounted to a UTG .83" medium riser. The co-witness is great, and the function of the flip up sight is secure. Best part of MAGPUL BUIS is that they are durable enough for the Micro Roni, and they were easy to adjust for elevation. Even comes with front post adjustment tool, which isn't the best but gets the job done.

Good BUIS, great deal when purchased as set

They were of equal or better quality of the sights offered by CAA, and the set price for front and rear sights through Optics Planet was cheaper as well. Best part of MAGPUL BUIS is that they are durable enough for the Micro Roni, and they were easy to adjust for windage.

Great value!

Written on Apr 20, 2018

I was looking for a low priced, high value optic to replace a much heavier scope for my AR patrol rifle. That meant a red dot sight. I own a Bushnell TRS-25, and enjoy it for what it's designed for. However, after looking at the Eotech product I wanted to get a trickle that incorporated the circle dot. There were many budget optics that had a similar reticle, but they all looked like they weren't as durable as I'd like. After researching the various internet reviews and watching YouTube reviews, I came upon the Holosun line of optics. I bought the HS503BU for my AR pistol, but wanted the solar power feature for the rifle. This optic for the bill nicely.

Now for specifics. Holosun packages their optics in a plastic box, with foam insert. The packaging is very high quality for the budget optics, and makes for a great storage box if I want to swap optics. It ships with both a high mount, which works perfectly for a 1/3 co-witness with my AR BUIS, and a low mount for shotgun, AK or other tactical rifle/pistol that uses a lower mount system. The auto on/off feature is great, and compliments the extra long battery life (20,000 hours on middle setting for circle dot, 50,000 hours for 2 MOA dot only). The reticle is crisp, and I like the circle dot for anything 200yds or closer. The best part is the price - it's 1/3 the cost of an Aimpoint! Time will tell if the optic will survive my intended use (my firearms are meant to be used, not look pretty), but most reviews are positive. Ove

A must for your lightweight classic look

Written on Apr 20, 2018

I bought the FDE version to match the other furniture on an AR patrol rifle build. It looks great! The extended front protects your hand from the heart generated by the gas block. The slim profile makes it easier for my wife to control the rifle, and the M-LOK slots allow for attachment of rail pieces for a light, VFG, and QD sling attachment point. Overall, you can't beat this high value hand guard!

Very nice drop-in trigger for the price - and anti-roll pins too!

Written on Apr 16, 2018

I was looking to upgrade my AR pistol trigger, but as most of us did not want to spend a fortune. The Rise Armament RA-140 SS Trigger has had numerous reviews by reputable gun blogs, vendors, and YouTube. Still, the decision wasn't made until I saw this set up, which included the K&S anti-roll pins. These are a must, as there is no spring tension to hold in your trigger and hammer pins as with milspec trigger groups.

Now for why I like this trigger. The pull weight is light, with very little take up before a nice smooth break. Reset is very short, so follow up shots are quick. The build quality of materials is consistent with other high-value, low cost drop in systems (Velocity, CMMG) that I have in other builds. Overall, I'd definitely buy set again for my AR builds.

Another good budget optic from NcSTAR

Written on Mar 30, 2018

Bought this optic for my 10.5" AR-15 pistol. Wanted something that I could use for close quarters, but still take advantage of ballistics of .223/5.56 round out to 200m. This scope will do just that. First, the glass is good quality for a Chinese made optic, and the reticle is good enough for plinking and home defense. Agree that the blue and red light for the reticle is crude, but does work in low light - home defense middle of the night scenario. The 1.1 setting is a bit tricky to get used to with both eyes open, but not too difficult.
If I had one con here, it's the flip up lens caps. They are cheap, cheap, cheap. The front one broke off mine the first time I tried to retrieve the rifle from the floor. Would rather have bikini covers, maybe clear on the ends like they have for Vortex scopes. Still, for the price, you get a good optic that will reach out to distance AND a decent CQB capability. Scope rings are good, but a bit on the heavy side; unfortunate, as the scope itself is relatively light compared to other 1-4 x 20 scopes. Turrets are easily adjustable without a tool, with audible and tactile clicks.

Excellent Pistol Brace

Written on Mar 19, 2018

Excellent build quality. It is a bit heavier than most braces, but the weight balances the pistol. Controls are simple using off hand and shoulder to make adjustments. Allows collapsing of pistol for easier stowage. Only real con other than weight is cost. It costs a little more than other braces. It is worth it.
