Update to my original review "NICE BUDGET SCOPE"

Initially I was fairly impressed with the Athlon Argos BTR 6-24X50 MOA. For the price the glass is very nice and the scope has a lot of features. After less than 2 months of use and maybe 400 rounds of 308 through an M1A the scope has failed.
While shooting I noticed that the focus was slightly off and I adjusted the parallax (side focus). At that time I noticed that the knob was loose. My groups also had opened up considerably, over doubling in size. After I got home I put the rifle in a vise and when the focus knob was moved I could see that the reticle would move and the focus would change.
Unfortunately for me it is beyond OPTICS PLANET's 30 day free return. I have contacted Athlon Optics and they requested that the scope be sent returned to them. They asked that the package be insured. So I have incurred additional expenses to return a product that has failed.
It is most likely an anomaly that my scope failed but that doesn't do me any good and in addition to the added expense of returning it I had the frustration of having wasted a day testing loads for that rifle when it was a scope failure that resulted in poor accuracy.

Nice Budget Scope

I had read a lot of reviews before purchasing the Argos BTR 6-24x. For the price you get a lot of scope with a lot of nice features. Yesterday I was doing some shooting at 500 yards, the Athlon was on an M1A and a Sightron SIII 6-24 was on a Ruger Precision. The glass on the Athlon is decent but was definitely not up to the quality of the Sightron. The Athlon was not quite as clear as the Sightron and at 24X with the Athlon you could see some distortion at the edges.
The Sightron cost about 2.5 times more than the Athlon. If you want extreme clarity at greater distances you may want to compare the Athlon to some of the higher end scopes, if you do you will see the difference. I have not shot 1000 yards in a couple of years, I am recovering from Esophageal cancer treatment 2 years ago and I am just getting back into shooting.
If you are on a budget it's a great deal. If you are expecting to get the top end glass you may be disappointed.
The Sightron cost about 2.5 times more than the Athlon.
