M1 Entry upgrades

Written on Nov 25, 2024

Bought this for a non-HK M1 Entry 14" SBS that was an LAPD LEO trade-in. The factory bolt release is the smallest I've seen; it's smaller than the diameter of a ballpoint pen and is definitely smaller than more modern shotguns now. In a tactical situation, I can only imagine the frustration of someone trying to close the bolt with such a small button release, especially if they're wearing gloves and/or trying to slap it shut while port-loading.

I watched some videos on this product and decided to try it. All you need to do is remove the bolt and trigger group from the shotgun and hammer out the rollpin holding the original bolt release lever. Install is reverse. Make sure to use loctite on the bolt that attaches the pad to the lever. The new bolt release button is a HUGE improvement over the original and you literally can't miss it when reloading. This product makes port-loading much easier and quicker. You won't be disappointed.

M1 Entry upgrades

Bought this for a non-HK M1 Entry 14" SBS along with a couple other things. Mine came with the LPC light forend with the still-working original halogen light assembly (80 lumen?) and was an LAPD LEO trade-in. After some weeks of research I came across this LED light upgrade for legacy shotgun forends. There wasn't really any info on this light until I stumbled across it here at Optics Planet (no videos on Youtube either in my research). I was almost content with swapping the light module with a P60 LED upgrade (120 lumen) but already having an older Surefire with the same head I wasn't impressed when I tried it on my shotgun. When I found the LM2-B, I knew I had to try it.

This light is a HUGE improvement over the original. It has a smaller overall profile compared to the original assembly and is a touch shorter. It lights up a room and works great outside at night. If you use an older Benelli with the light forend and are looking for a solid LED upgrade, you can't beat this.

Benelli M1 Entry upgrades

Bought this for a non-HK M1 Entry 14" SBS along with a couple other things. If I had anything to change about it, I would make it maybe a 1/4" shorter in length but otherwise you can't miss it and it works great.

UTG slim handguard

Written on Jun 24, 2024

I bought one of these for an SBR build years ago; I wanted a handguard that was slimmer than OE but not clunky like some handguards/quadrails are. I had an earlier UTG quad-rail at the time but had sold it with a previous rifle so I decided to try this one out based on the slimmer dimensions. When I got it installed, I was pretty surprised by the feel and look; it's the diameter of the front handguard cap. I liked it so much that I had it cerakoted locally to color-match the build I had.

It's narrower than many of the 2-piece handguards out there although there are slimmer (usually the slimmest are free-floating). I added a rail piece at the 6 o'clock position and added a Streamlight TLR-1 for a weapon light, but there are mounting points for rail pieces at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. I've had it since 2017 and am still running it.

5Star and TruSpec are one in the same; this stuff will do the job.

Gunmaster Driver Set

Written on Jun 24, 2024

I bought this for my cleaning kit (all stored in a large fishing tackle box with organizers); I try to keep everything I need in there as I'm usually helping friends with their firearms and keep my kit travel-ready. I needed a tool that would fit in my particular kit and couldn't find anything smaller with the assortment of bits it has. I used this tool to install 2 Magpul MOE grips on both of my AR rifles immediately after arrival and it worked excellent. It appears to have many of the bits I've had to dig out of my primary tool set all in one convenient hand-held tool.

For what it is, it should do just fine for basic tooling around with guns. For the price, if you're looking for a basic travel-sized tool set for your firearms, this should do the trick short of buying specialty tools you might need (depending on your firearm, of course).

Magpul MOE AR15 grip

Written on Jun 24, 2024

Bought one each for my SBR and my A4 varmint; I had Ergo grips on each one before but got tired of the rubber plugs shaking loose under recoil. I already had Magpul stocks on each one so I figured sooner or later I would get matching grips (one FDE and one OD). I chose this over the reduced grip angle model because I don't mind the standard grip angle (I actually prefer it). I also wanted the storage compartment cap as it would probably NOT shake loose like my old Ergo grips would. The feel and function is great and the price was right.
