Really good extension base pads
Written on Jun 17, 2025
I bought 3 of these for my glock 17 mags. The hard part was getting the old base pad off. These installed super easy, and look really great. The quality on the machining and finish are superb. And I like that you can remove the base plate to get access to the spring and follower without removing the whole base pad. I looked at many others (more expensive!) before choosing these, and I'm glad I did. Highly recommend these.

Problems with the unit
Written on May 17, 2016
Adjustable angle sharpeners are the way to go. This unit seemed to have ample power to do the job. However there are problems. First of all, for some reason, the black rubber hand rest pad on the left top of the unit was very sticky. I've seem this happen to synthetic plastics over time and when exposed to heat. Not sure what caused it on this unit -- it shouldn't be on a brand new unit. Doesn't clean up well, rubbing alcohol doesn't seem to do anything to it. The pad shouldn't be there in the first place; doesn't really add anything to the functioning of the unit.
Secondly, the slots which the knife blades pass thru are narrow. Fine for kitchen knives, but I have some survival knives with thicker blades, and they won't fit down in the slots far enough to touch the sharpening wheels. You can adjust the cutting angle for "sport/pocket" knives, but it you can't get the blade to touch the wheels, that doesn't do you any good.
Because of these problems, and the price of this unit, I can't recommend it to others.
