Right off the bat, lost a star because it is advertised as, and is clearly stated in the description as a 1 MOA DOT. It is not, order form that came with package, and the box indicate 2 MOA DOT. Miss leading! BUT, it doesn't mean its a bad optic, and I am okay with 2 MOA as some of the best red dots on the market are 2 MOA. Just speaking to the misleading information on the website.
I will do another review of the optic after use, and I will note that the screws on the base mount do not have an locktite on them so I will be adding that in the near future.

I Shot this on three different setups, bolt gun in 308 18" barrel, AR w/14.5" 556, and an AR w/11.5" 556. Bought it for fun and to be nicer to my range neighbors, and really out of curiosity. I definitely see the practicality of this device, but it has some issues. With the 308 bolt gun at 100' yds I experienced 2.25"-2.5" inch zero shift. With the 14.5" 556 I got similar results @ 100 yds, but with the 11.5" @36 yds, the shift was hardly noticeable. Less then half an inch. Now, I got definite directional control of the blast, it was very linear and forward, and the matter of dust kick up was not possible for me to test do to being in an indoor range however, needless to say, the dust kicking up should not be an issue with this device as the blast was certainly pushed forward. The zero shift is a problem though, and I will have to do some more testing to see if there is any consistency to it, if it is predictable and, if it is something that can be worked around. Side note, recoil does change, not a problem with the 556's but with the 308 it was more noticeable and if you want to see your hits at longer ranges, or get fast follow up shots, you will have to work on settling the rifle back down, which negates the reason for having a break on it in the first place.

The box came opened, and damaged. The battery was missing, and the zero stop had already been applied. I was definitely put off by it but I had extra batteries and I wanted to give the scope a chance before I sent it back. I will be doing a tracking test and zeroing in a couple of days and if there is anything wrong with the scope that is significant I will be sending it back and going with a different brand, and different company!
At this time I can not recommend the product, of Optic planet for their failed quality control, until I've tested the scope further. I did bore site it and it seemed to be dialing okay. Hopefully this scope is all I have heard about Athlon. Next time Optic planet, watch what you send out the door!

Pros: Light weight, easy on/off, looks.....
Con: Won't maintain a zero, shifts fro center line.
Okay, for the price this thing should be able to maintain zero. I turns out to be more gimmicky then functional. Mounting a front sight on it will be fruitless as the guard shifts with relative ease and slight pressure. Forget about mounting IR lasers or visible lasers on it. It would fail at hog hunting at night and certainly would not hold out to hard use or military/duty use. I am actually really disappointed in the product considering the price I paid. I fully expect a solid lock up on the hand-guard at this price point. The good part is that since I am running a .308 having an adjustable gas block is essential (IMO) and there is a convenience to quickly taking off the guard to adjust it. Only thing is, there are only so many times you need to do this and maintaining zero has precedence over access. Loosing zero without even taking it off is bad enough but you definitely loose zero when you take it off and put it back on. While it is on very little pressure is needed to push/pull away from the barrel causing a shift which will destroy your zero. If access to adjust gas block is a concern then save your money and buy an extended reach tool/gas-key to make adjustments and buy a more solid mounting guard. Now, that said, this thing is light and on a .308 it is very beneficial if weight saving is important but I just think there are still better options available especially in th
