First off the service at O.P. has been stellar as usual. I was looking for a small optic for my AR 15 that was compact, fast to get on target, and would work with people with a stigmatism. All the red dots were a wild blur of red if I did not wear my glasses. This scope is perfect for me, but may not be for everybody. Pros- small, light, very fast to get on target, reverts to a normal reticle if batteries fail, and is easily adjusted. It is rugged and holds zero well. Batteries are the cheap 2032 batteries. Cons- The free mount that it comes with is a single bolt on a short bar. It appears iffy in the long term and I purchased a better mount. The turret tethers are a nice thought, but in use they interfere with the firing and adjustment of the scope as they dangle and flop around when firing. You either cut them off, or put the turrets on and off after each adjustment during the initial sight in. The flip up scope lens covers were also a nice thought. Problem is you can not focus the scope unless you remove them every time as they are attached to the focus ring, not the scope body. The biggest note to a prospective buyer is the aiming reticle. You have 2 huge bright rings for fast point blank shooting of a bad guy and an almost non existent center dot for precision shots. In broad daylight using either the black, green, or red it is invisible past 10 yards. From the bench on a black target at 25 yards using bright red, I could barely make it out. On a zero magnification scop

I was looking for a scope for my new Remington 700 in .308 Winchester. I had never had a Vortex scope before and honestly had never really heard anything about them. It had all of the things I wanted except side focus. That would have made it perfect. It is well made and very clear. Once aligned and torqued down it retained zero after 3 trips of bouncing around. Adjustments on the turrets were easy but firm. The normal crosshairs w/o all of the clutter were a relief. After zeroing, the scope allowed me to easily hold ragged 1 hole groups at 150 yards. I will try it at a longer range area next week. Downsides: No side focus. On a scope this large it is a pain to reach forward to focus and you must lift up your head to make the adjustments. Be aware that as this scope has a huge(50 mm) front lens, it required not just a high mount, but an extra high mount to clear the barrel. I purchased extra high mounts and a rail to give it even more height. It now is exactly where it should with reliable bolt function and barrel clearance. Also the brightness and clarity of the scope view fades as you approach 24X. At maximum power a slight haze comes over your sight picture. Back off to 22X or lower, and it clears up. Not a big issue for a scope that otherwise is a great addition and a super value.

It was well made and finished, but worthless if you plan to use any rifle with either a pistol grip or a magazi9ne over 5 rounds. Because the center bar is in a straight line and very close to the height of the front/rear rest, your rifle will hit the bar long before you can seat it. No way to adjust. This would be great for a bolt action or similar rifle, but it will not work with AR, AK, HK, any pistol grip/detachable mag rifle.

I have tried 3 different mounts, all were junk. Even when tightened with pliers the mounts wiggled so much getting a zero was impossible. Even bedding them did not work. This unit is superb. Drop in and forget about it.

I was looking for a weapons light for my Magpul stocked Remington 870 Police. I wanted something bright enough to light up the target and allow me to see the bead. I mounted it on a rail section attached to the extended magazine. I am able to reach the well designed on / off switch without moving my hands off of the forearm. The 800 Lumens light is more than enough to entirely light up the target area and bleed a little light onto the front bead / sight. I practiced turning the light on quickly, shooting, and then turning off the light quickly and moving positions. Anyone that leaves a weapon light on all the time in a defense situation quickly becomes a "bullet magnet". The light attaches and detaches easily with a single clamp. No loose screws to lose. You can attach or detach the light with a turn of a small attached knob. This unit is very well thought out and would advise any serious shooters to give it a look.
