Tried this stock out yesterday on an AR-308 and I can say is "wow"! While I could feel the rifle moving thru the stock yet I felt no harsh recoil on my shoulder. Being recoil sensitive due to a previous shoulder injury I found the Fab Defense stock to be a welcome relief with no pain afterwards and no residual pain today, a day later. I will be getting more Gl shocks.
Several years ago I purchased the original version of this sight. At one time it was rated the best inexpensive red/green dot sight. I regret now not having purchased more of them at the time.
Recently I purchased and returned three of these sights for one simple reason, the red/green dot is not bright enough to use in direct sunlight. This was disappointing because the older version is much brighter and has proven very reliable over the past several years. I was sure hoping to get another sight like the one I already have but it appears that is no longer possible. Leapers if you are reading this bring back the version of this sight which was made about 10 years ago.
I didn't install this Fab Defense recoil reducing stock on an AR but rather on an AK with an M4 stock adapter. Personally I don't see the need for this stock on a 5.56/223 AR but it works great at reducing recoil on the AK in 7.62X39. Plus the buttstock 'foot print" is larger on an M4 type stock vs the standard AK stock which also helps. I should point out that this stock should be extended at least one position from the fully collapsed position in order to work properly. If the stock is fully collapsed AND touching the castle nut it won't work. This stock is definitely something to consider if you have an AR Thumper in 450 Bushmaster, 458 Socom, etc or even an AR10.
Purchased this stock as an upgrade for my Savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP. After purchasing the required steel parts from Savage to upgrade the magazine well and release, the stock was installed on the rifle with very minor fitting required. Sighting the rifle in at the range was easy with good groups as a result. Overall the rifle felt very nice to hold and control while shooting with a noticeable improvement over the OEM plastic stock. All was well until the first trip to the field when on the first day of the hunt, the rifle was dropped which cracked the stock near the rear of the receiver. Basically the stock is ruined and my hunt would have been too except for bringing a back-up rifle which got the job done when the elk appeared a couple of days later. Boyds only has a 90 day warrantly so with the stock being about 6 - 7 months old I am out of luck and so is Boyds because originally I planned to purchase additional stocks from them for my other rifles. Oh well....
