Burris Fast Fire III mounted on a Ruger Lite 45/22

Written on Feb 11, 2017

I purchased the FastFire III for my wife to utilize on a Ruger Lite45/22 as she has issues with iron sights for fast target acquisition.

Bottom Line Up Front: I would recommend this optic for a Ruger 22. Easy to mount, works very well with the recoil, stays in place with the optional mount, works as advertised, stays on sight (no movement of reticle/red dot), and great price (I purchased while on sale with a review coupon).

Optics Planet service: top notch and fast as have been all of my purchases, arrived new in package within 5 days.

The Optic: the red dot is a little large, but is easily adjustable with the push button on the side- you have to get used to it for adjusting quickly to your light conditions. The view and the red dot are excellent for the price, and work very well on the Ruger. The adjustable brightness works very well and can be adjusted quickly for bright conditions (high brightness) to low light or overcast conditions (low brightness). The on and off is easy for me, but my wife needs to cant the gun accordingly to turn it on and off due to the pistol size and mounting configuration- individual specific due to size of hands, and smaller hands may have a little trouble with quick manipulation of the button.

Quality: For mounting on a .22 pistol, I feel the quality standards will manage the recoil. I have put approximately 150 rounds through it with the scope, in hot, cold and wet weather. I have not seen any fogging, the mount stays tight, and each

Leupold VX-1 2-7x28mm .22 Caliber Rimfire Rifle Scope mounted on 10/22

Written on Sep 29, 2016

I purchased the Leupold VX-1 2-7x28mm .22 Caliber Rimfire Rifle Scope for mounting on a Ruger 10/22. The scope is excellent in appearance and was easy to mount. If purchased in conjunction with the rebate, it is much more cost effective. The eye relief seems a little off, and I needed to mount it a little further back than what I wanted. Scope was spot on, adjustments were easy, but this scope does not have the external caps. The fine duplex reticle is also really good and the picture is very clear. I have no issues with it and it works well on the Ruger, and don't expect to use the warranty. Excellent scope for any .22 and is very lightweight, keeping the weight down on your rifle system.

Lyman Electronic Digital Trigger Gauge- One issue with battery cover

Written on Jul 05, 2016

I purchased this digital trigger gauge based off of other reviews, and Optics Planet costs were comparable to other vendors- I recommend catching on an Optics Planet sale and the cost and shipping will be below other vendors. The trigger gauge is very easy to use and adjustable for varied weights (pounds or kilograms)-easily adjustable. The readout is very large, which is very useful for me as I usually wear reading glasses to read small print- I did not need my glasses for this, which is very useful for taking quick measurements and if you are older like me. Ease of use, this gauge is very simplistic and easy to use. I could take 10 trigger measurements in less than 5 minutes for one trigger. Instructions are very easy and setup was less than 10 minutes. Accuracy and standard readings were within ounces of each other and I rarely received a reading that was odd. I tested 8 rifles with this gauge, and if trigger pull is a consideration for you on your guns, I highly recommend this gauge. Also, this is not a milspec item, so is not waterproof- recommend use indoors.
One issue: The battery cover does not seat fully over the 9 volt battery. Although it doesn't seat and I just keep the battery held in with my hand while in use. I did not return it as it is only a minor inconvenience and I work on an indoor bench when working on my rifles. If not for this issue, I would have given it 5 stars.
Optics Planet service and shipping was on par with previous purchases- fast order and

Weaver Style QRW Rings (low and medium)

Written on May 03, 2015

I really like these rings. I have 3 sets of these rings, which I have mounted on a Savage 111- FCNS (30-06), Ruger American (5.56), and Ruger (.308) with Leupold QRW "LOW" scope mounts, with a general purpose of hunting. The mounts fit well on all of the rifles (specifically with the low rings and the scopes are 42MM and 40MM, so not really that big of an issue for spacing/mounting/fit- note: the LOWs would probably not work for larger than a 42MM scope, as the Savage 111 FCNS and the Ruger rifles I have only have a 1/32" space between the front objective bell and the scope base/barrel- I can see light through it and slide a spacer between them, but it is close. The rings mounted easily and are of high quality and nice finish- I also prefer the picatinny rail for mounting these rings, with multiple slots to make it easier to move the scope/scope rings back and forth for scope eye relief (a lot of other rails (Leupold) only have 2-3 slots for the scope rings and sometimes makes it difficult to get the correct eye scope relief). One issue on mounting is the inability (at least for me) is to check the torque spec when attaching the rings- They are tightly clamped, but I used a small 4" crescent wrench on the handles. No issues at this time on any of the rings and I don't suspect any. I have about 120 rounds through this 30-06 rifle, 200 rounds through the 5.56, and 100 rounds through the .308 with the Leupold QRW rings- I rechecked the zero several times and have no scope ring m

EGW Picatinny Rail Rifle Scope

Written on May 03, 2015

This is the first EGW product that I have purchased, which I mounted on a Savage 111- FCNS (30-06), for use with Leupold QRW low scope mounts, with a general purpose of hunting. The EGW was the only scope base that I could find that worked for the rounded end base of the Savage 111. The EGW scope base fit perfectly on the Savage 111, mounted easily, and is of high quality and nice finish- I also prefer the picatinny rail, with multiple slots to make it easier to move the scope/scope rings back and forth for scope eye relief (a lot of other rails (Leupold) only have 2-3 slots for the scope rings and sometimes makes it difficult to get the correct scope relief). I have about 120 rounds through this 30-06 rifle with the EGW mount and Leupold QRW rings- I rechecked the torque specs (which held) and no scope movement. I would recommend this EGW scope base mount for this rifle/ring combination. It also came with an extra mounting screw (I assume in the event the user loses one, which is a convenient forethought). Overall for finish and function, I would give it 100%- especially for the Savage 111 with rounded base. OpticsPlanet shipped extremely fast and no issues for purchase, shipment, or questions- they also made the exchange of the Leupold rail that did not fit (even though product description stated that it would) very easy and painless- excellent customer service.

Excellent Bases- will not fit the Savage 111 FCNS

Written on Mar 01, 2015

I ordered these for a Savage Model 111 FCNS. Although Leupold and product descriptions say they will fit- they will not work as the receiver on the 111 is round and the bases are for flat receivers.

I have these bases on another rifle and they work very well, easy to mount and hold in place. They work very well with the QRW rings from Leupold. I have them on two rifles and they shoot MOA.

Leupold 4-12x40mm Matte VX-R- Excellent Product

Written on Mar 01, 2015

I purchased this scope for a Savage FCNS 111, 30-06 and I am extremely pleased with the purchase. The Scope clarity is excellent and the illuminated reticle is phenomenal for the lower light or overcast days. I only have 15 rounds through the rifle and scope, but the scope has been excellent. You will have to purchase scope lens caps/covers. The on/off switch for the illuminated reticle is very easy to use, and works as described- brightness is easy to adjust. I purchased the ballistic reticle, but have not been able to test it past 15 yards. Works as well as my other Leupolds. I really like the updated power ring adjustor, with an extended knurl- makes it easy to switch power, even with gloves. I prefer the turrets to not have covers, but this model has them. The scope overall should work well for the hunting task I chose it for.
