The Nitecore EC20 has many good features and is extremely bright for such a small light.
It remembers the last brightness setting, but can also be started in the moonlight mode by holding down the On switch, which is great for not spoiling night vision. It can be locked off with a twist of the tail cap to prevent accidental activation in a pocket or luggage. At 960 lumens it is bright enough to be my backup spotlight for boating, or other purposes, and there are no artifacts in the beam pattern, something users of good quality LED flashlights have come to expect, but is not the case with many flashlights still being made, even LED lights or larger units that call themselves "spotlights." It will stay at 960 lumens for 5 minutes before it reduces power to avoid overheating, then cuts back to 530 lumens according to a test I read, which is still very bright, and 35 minutes later cuts back to 340. I find that pretty acceptable, considering you can always turn it off, and back on to get the Hi setting again. I wondered if the press and hold to change brightness levels would be a problem, but it is easy to control and I don't accidentally jump over the setting I want.
I also bought the Nitecore White Wand to put on the end to diffuse the light and make it more like a lantern, and that works very well also, even in moonlight mode, so it is definitely a good option, if you can keep track of where it is.
