Poor product design

Written on Sep 16, 2018

I purchased this rail to fit a Zastava M-70 N-PAP rifle. If you’ve watched AIM Sport’s installation video for their AK rails, for every other version of AK there is a block that goes into the receiver which keeps the rail from rotating. The Yugo version, for whatever reason, has no such block. Because the rail attaches to neither the receiver/trunnion nor the front HG retainer, the only way to keep it from slipping and rotating is to clamp it with immense force to the barrel. If I’d realized that the Yugo version lacked this obvious solution to the issue of rotation, I’d probably not have purchased it. Yugo AK owners often get the short end of the stick, and this rail is unfortunately no exception. I wrote AIM and asked them if perhaps my rail was simply just missing a piece. They told me that “it appears the trunnion part is missing” and that they’d send out such a part when it’s available. That was over 3 months ago, they’ve neither sent a part nor written. I assume there is no such part (there are no screw holes in the rail where a trunnion mount could attach) and I also assume that the CS representative didn’t know that their Yugo rail lacks this necessary piece.
