16 inch faxon pencil barrel
Written on May 07, 2020
so far I have over 1k rounds through this barrel. At first this barrel to me was just acceptable due the incredible weight savings but the accuracy was just, meh. After almost 800 rnds I removed the barrel, lapped the reciever face, and used 0.001 inch stainless steel shim stock to "bed" the barrel and removed all play that it had with the receiver. After doing so I regularly shoot 1" or less 5 shot groups, 5/8" being the best so far with federal gold medal match 69 grainers. All groups were shot with a 6x scope, so the rifle is more than likely more accurate than I am with this scope. If this is any indication, then Faxon's match series should be phenomenal, but with this kind of performance i can't really justify moving to it just yet. Sub moa accuracy with a sub 5 lb AR-15 is very possible with faxon, just be sure to do your part when assembling.
