Small and Light ...

Written on Aug 15, 2017

I sat on the fence with adding a red dot on my Glock 19 MOS but finally pulled the trigger and bought one during a recent sale that OP had and I'm glad I did. I went with the 4 MOA unit and worried the dot might be too small for my aging eyes but was happy with it once installed and used. The unit arrived quickly and was well packaged. As I had seen in other reviews, I had to contact customer service to ship out the washers that are needed for the mounting screws to fit properly when using the Glock #1 plate. Once those were in hand it was a quick install. Earlier I had already replaced the stock sights with the tall Trijicon suppressor sights and with the Burris mounted you can co-witness with them perfectly. The RDS comes with a shade cover which I haven't used as of yet. I did notice that it may require a minor amount of sanding to fit between the Trijicon sight and the RDS, that's a tight fit in there. I've run a couple hundred rounds at the range and haven't had any issues with the mount getting loose. The autolight feature works pretty well indoors but I find the manual levels are handy for certain light situations outside. The detente on the button to turn on/off or walk through the light levels can be touchy to make contact but once you get use to the feel it's not a problem. Overall I'm very pleased with the unit and for the price this is a great deal.

Gets the job done ...

I was looking for backup carry of a Ruger LCP II (other than pocket carry) and decided to give this a try. If your calf/ankle area is pushing the large size, that 13 inches doesn't leave a lot of velcro to attach the holster snugly. Galco should offer a simple extender (the one they offer with the suede is overkill for somebody looking to just have a snug fit). I solved that problem by taking a quality neoprene can coozie, cutting the bottom off and cutting up the side at the stiching. Picked up a velcro tab from Hobby Lobby, cut to size and sewed the velcro pieces on each end of the coozie strip. Works great (the coozie I used was black so matches original holster material). The holsters padding is comfortable and helps pressure point on the inside of the leg area. Strap retainer is plenty long (no doubt to accommodate how different pistols fit) but you can trim that with scissors to fit desired size. One other thing to fix ... there is a button snap at the top of the retention strip which is metal. The back is unprotected which means it's going to rub your gun frame/slide area. I had some of those felt circular patches (Home Depot or Lowes has them) used for placing on the bottom of chairs to protect floors, problem solved - covers the back of the button and protects gun. With the above modifications, the gun fits snug and comfortable enough to forget you have it on.
