Must for 7.62

Written on Jan 09, 2020

Love it! Used on an 18" 7.62x39 ar/ak build. This break helps tame the recoil of this light rifle. It was overgassed, so we reduced it with a new block, this fixed the action along with a t2 heavy buffer, but sent more gas out the front making for a jumpy rifle. The barrel had come with the standard crappy A-2 style flash hider. As soon as we replace with this is was a different gun. Be warned that it does bark, so if you are in close lanes the folks to your sides will not be as impressed. It allows for faster follow ups and measurably smaller groups in combination with things like binary triggers or if you are blessed to have FA.

Best bang for the buck I've found

Written on Jan 09, 2020

These are fantastic mounts, I have several AD mounts on various optics. I found them while looking for a comparable to LaRue Tactical. While LaRue is incredible, so is the price. My requirements are that the mount has to be solid, must have a repeatable zero (I need to remove optics to get space in gun safes, and re zeroing gets old), and they had be be at a better price point than alternatives. AD fits the bill on all 3. In fact i recently did a hybrid ar with this mount and a new Vortex Spitfire 3x and it was on the paper at 100 first shot. I did not bore sight or anything!(just got lucky i doubt i would ever see this happen again). However, this is an indicator of the tight tolerances and fitment that you get. These are tough, tac ready, units that hold zero like units that cost 2x as much. Also they are made in Wisconsin! I like the standard levers vs the tactical(standard are smaller and my fingers are made of tungsten). If you buy one of these, you may be filled with regret that you now will have to replace the mounts across all your systems..they are sometimes slower to ship due to demand, but they are worth the wait time.

For those of us with astigmatism

Written on Jan 09, 2020

I must say that this is one of my favorite optics. Prismatic for me has several advantages over a red dot. I own the Trij MRO as well as an Aimpoint PRO, and with my eyes, the dot is a starburst. I have seen many reviews that discuss the "quality" of a red dot being bad, only to find out that its their eyesight. That said, the Vortex Spitfire is great alternative to a red dot on an AR platform, with 3x it gives, nice, CLEAR, picture that compliments the effective (lets be real) ranges of the 5.56 platform. The reticle is usable and functions well with some practice. Follow the instructions and you'll be great. Comes with Flip ups, and i like to add the American Defense QD mounts to ALL my optics. Bang for the buck with this is fantastic, And unlike the red dot, the prismatic will still have the reticle (like a non-illuminated optic) even when off or battery dead. This does both red and green, as well as has "off" settings so you are only one click from what you like. The turrets are smooth and positive. No complaints.
