Softer than expected recoil; exceptional accuracy.

Written on Sep 20, 2024

I haven't purchased much Norma ammunition, but 6.5 PRC is not as popular as other calibers and a lot of places (including Optics Planet) stock Norma in 6.5 PRC. The price was reasonable too.

This is soft point (exposed lead tip) ammunition; which is to say it has somewhat of a blunt tip (not a sharp aero tip). My rifle really likes this ammo, as it was shooting sub-MOA groups with it. Felt recoil was noticeably softer with this ammo compared to another brand I shot the same day, which makes sense considering Norma only loads these to produce a 2887 ft/sec muzzle velocity with a 140gr bullet (according to box label data).

The brass case and copper jacket of the bullet appear to be made of high quality metals. Primers are not crimped, and no sealant was used on the primers or the bullets.

Exactly what I needed to mount a 30mm tube scope with 50mm objective lens on a bolt action rifle...

These 0.600" high scope mount rings are sufficiently high enough (without being too high) to allow for a scope with a 50mm objective lens to clear the barrel on a Browning bolt-action rifle that uses the X-lock mounting system. The scope ring kit came with all the necessary hardware and the proper torx tool to install them.

Has a Bronze finish, not typical FDE. Turret clicks are positive, can be zeroed after adjustment.

At the time I ordered this scope from Optics Planet, they did not have a picture of it posted on their website so I could see the actual color of it. They marketed this particular scope as being "FDE" (flat dark earth) in color, which isn't accurate. It appears to be an anodized bronze finish which looks very nice and classy, but doesn't match any other FDE finishes I have on various firearms. So if you are buying this to match your FDE rig, it won't. But if you have an anodized bronze finished firearm, this scope will look very sharp on it. This is really the only thing "bad" I have to say about it.

With that out of the way, let's get to the positives. The turret clicks are positive and can be zeroed by removing the screws (holding the turrets on) and re-zeroing the turret rings. The optics are clear and crisp, even at full magnification. This is the first FFP (first focal plane) optic I've owned, and I really like the reticle (MOA on this particular model). So far it has held zero with no issues, but I haven't run that many rounds thru the gun I have it mounted on yet.
