This is actually a very interesting item. It has internal armor pockets in front and rear for "core" protection (heart and lungs). There are internal additional support straps sewed in which help support weight of armor (10" by 12") ballistic panels. Soft armor up to NUJ IIIA works great. The lighter weight hard polyethylene 10" by 12" plates work good but not the heavy 10 pound steel plates. If you wear large I recommend ordering the extra large for more comfort. Alone without using ballistic panels - this is a nice shirt especially for the price. With the panels inserted thus very concealable rig could save your life and easily stires in a backpack or briefcase.
