Nice addition to a home defense handgun

Written on Jan 21, 2018

I've have CT Laser Grips installed on a couple of my pistols. This model is installed on a Wilson Combat Beretta Brigadier Tactical. I dislike rail mounted lights as they interfere with my preferred hold, finger on the front of the trigger guard so the laser grip provides a great alternative. It activates easily and is both bright and accurate. The only con for me is battery life, which, while not terrible, could be longer. For many people though, the increased grip size will be an issue. In my case, it fills my hand better. If the standard grip fills your hand, the Laser Grip will probably be too large.

Finally, an affordable borescope

Written on Jan 21, 2018

I have owned the Lyman Borecam for about 18 months now. When it first hit the market, I was concerned about potential quality due to the low price versus the competition. I am happy to say my concerns were unfounded and it has exceeded my expectations. It clearly shows rifling, fouling, tooling marks, etc. Though I don't use it often, it has become a valuable tool in my shop. If I had one suggestion for Lyman, it would be to make it battery powered. This would make it more convenient to use to evaluate firearms at a location such as a gun show.

A Great Training Aid

Written on Sep 21, 2017

I have had the Mantis X for a couple of weeks and have used it to practice with several pistols, dry firing only. It is easy to install and use. I have installed the application on my Galaxy Note 4 phone and find it easy to use as well. I think the dry fire practice is the best feature as it lets you practice at home without expending ammunition. I have been training with a FNX45 Tactical mostly. It will miss about 20 percent of dry fired shots which is acceptable to me. It will miss dry fired shots on some pistols more than others. My live fire groups have improved noticeably since practicing with the Mantis X. Before purchasing, if you plan to dry fire, make sure your firearm is capable of dry firing. Many guns, particularly .22s, can be damaged when dry fired. It would probably be a good idea to use snap caps in any firearm just to be safe. I have not tried it with rifles or CO2 guns yet so I cannot comment on how well it works on those.

Well made adjustable butt plate

Written on Sep 16, 2017

This butt plate permits me to place the rifle butt into a more comfortable position when shooting. It allows a better cheek weld too. It is very well made and easily installed. It would be nice if the plate allowed you to adjust it while in shooting position. However, the trial and error adjustment is fairly quick to get it adjusted. It allows you to adjust for cant and height only.

Well made but too expensive

Written on Jul 13, 2017

This offset adapter is the only model I could find that places the red dot in correct position to clear the tall tactical scope knob on my AR. This offset rail is well made and clamps tightly to the handguard. However, I have a couple different models of this type of adapter from different manufacturers, and while they didn't work well for this particular application, seem to be just as well made. The others cost less than 1/4 the price of the Trijicon model. This is just another example of paying an exorbitant price for a brand name. I deducted 2 stars for the excessive price.

Great trigger

Written on Jul 06, 2017

I purchased the CE 2-stage to replace the X-Mark Pro in a brand new Remington 700 SPS Stainless. The factory trigger was crisp but had a very heavy pull, at least for me. It was also a single stage trigger and I prefer a 2-stage. Discovered that Timney had fairly recently released the CE 2-stage. Timney triggers have a good reputation from what I could tell so I decided to try it. It was an easy five minute install, no adjusting necessary. The new trigger is great with a twenty ounce pull and crisp release.

First one stopped working after 50 rounds

Written on Jun 15, 2017

The RMR is mounted on a FNX-45 Tactical. The first one failed after 50 rounds. I have received a replacement and hope it is better. I replaced a Burris FF3 mostly due to the advertised longer battery life of the RMR and the supposed ruggedness. The FF3 functioned fine and I actually prefer the way it functions but it wont take a drop as well as the RMR due to its lighter housing.

Nice red dot sight

Written on Apr 21, 2017

The FF3 is small and light making it excellent for handguns. If you have aging eyes, you'll find it a big improvement over iron sights. I have these mounted on pistols in 22lr, 9mm, 45acp, and 44mag and they handle the recoil just fine. Also, in my experience, the picatinny mount returns to zero very well.

High Quality Sights

Written on Feb 24, 2017

These sights are very well made and extremely bright in low light conditions. They are the same height as the original sights on my pistol. Removing the old sights was a challenge, particularly the front due to being staked. Installation was easy though.

Fits perfectly

Written on Feb 07, 2017

The holster fits my FNX-45 Tactical with Burris FF3 perfectly. The magazine holder is also fits well. I also like the ability to change the holster to a smaller profile. The price is decent so it's a good buy overall.
