Fits Perfect!

Written on Dec 19, 2021

I got the Aimpoint Micro several years back. I then followed up with getting the 3X magnifier. As expected, the optics are great. To get the magnifier to mount, I went with Aimpoint again. But then they only had the twist-off mount - who would really want to take the time to twist off the magnifier and then put it in their pocket for storage to shoot 1x???, especially those of you that do it for a living (Thank you to those ALL that serve!)

So when I saw this, I got it without hesitation. I suppose it took them a little time to figure out the design to keep such a low profile. But I will say that the flip mount works as expected - co-witnessed to the red dot, conveniently twists out of the way. To Aimpoint quality standards. Sure the price is up there for flip mounts, but you get what you pay for. And if you already have the Aimpoint Micro and the Aimpoint 3X Magnifier, you've run the marathon. Run the lap in the stadium to get across the finish line and get the Aimpoint Flip to Side Mount for your 3X Magnifier. Completes the package well.

Dropped right into my Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec

Written on May 01, 2021

With minimal filing and polishing, this Wilson Combat trigger dropped right into my Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec and functions great. Filing and polishing time was less than 20 minutes. I had a little filing to do on the frame too, so check yours for a smooth surface for the right fit. Really like having the trigger contact surface more forward.

Wilson Combat 1911 Elite Tactical Magazine, .45 ACP, Full-Size, 8 Round, ETM Base Pad

Written on Jan 12, 2021

I got both stainless (500) and black (500B) Wilson Combat Elite Tactical Magazines for my 1911 that has an extended magazine well. The base pad flares out for easier removal. These magazines work great!

Take note and don't expect to just buy the Wilson Combat base pads (500BP) and swap them out. The WC magazines with these base pads are slightly longer to account for the external sides. A typical length magazine will not load - the base pad will engage the extended magazine well before the magazine lock. Although they attach to a typical 1911 magazine without any fit issues, the sidewall features of the base pads effectively "shorten" the outside length of the magazine. So when I went to load the magazine, the base pad bottomed out on the frame before the slot in the magazine engaged the magazine release. To make sure I was not losing my mind, I compared the overall length of the magazine to one of my Wilson Combat magazines with these base pads installed. The Wilson Combat magazine is about 1/8th of an inch longer than my other magazine. The base pad does not contact the frame. If you want the base pads, just buy the magazine UPC:874218004361.

These base pads are great, but BUYER BEWARE

Written on Nov 02, 2020

These base pads are great! They make magazine loading and removal much easier. I have the extended mag well on my 1911. I bought a 3-pack of these to exchange with the base pads on my 1911 magazines. They fit on the magazines just fine.

So here is the BUYER BEWARE part:

Great Magwell and Main Sprign Housing

Written on Aug 22, 2020

I put this on a Springfield 1911-A1. Went on with NO modifications. Not even any filing to break edges - NOTHING!

As for fit, it is great! I have large hands, so I was glad to get rid of the beveled, stock main-spring housing. I also like the added length with the magwell. Overall, fit and finish are top of the line as expected for Ed Brown products. I am buying a second for my other 1911.

Very Streamlined Mount

Written on Aug 17, 2020

This optics mount is great! Very streamlined / low-profile design. No QD, so that makes for screws that sit nearly within the profile of the mount. No big lug nuts, wing nuts, or latches to get caught on stuff. The aluminum mount is slightly over-sized compared to the Pic rail. So when secured, the mount will give that small amount and secure itself rigidly to the Pic rail. Nicely done in that the base is really just the ONE part. No need to worry about multiple parts of the base moving and throwing your scope off. I have two. Highly recommended!

Magpul - Enough Said

Written on Jul 11, 2019

Just plain-old plastic grip panels, right? Yes, but a cut above the rest. Magpul continues to bring their high standard of ergonomics into a simple set of 1911 grip panels. The two big pluses: Nice clearance for my thumb, but you have to shoot right-handed. Second: the grip panels have that nice aggressive texture that you will find on all Magpul grips. Also, there is clearance on the right-side grip should you want to put on an ambidextrous safety. If not, the clearance is hardly noticeable.

Better Than My Stock Safety

Written on Jul 11, 2019

If you want a solid ambidextrous safety for your 1911, this is a great option. But keep in mind that AS STATED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS, Wilson Combat has intentionally oversized the internal lug to accommodate a variety of 1911 manufacturers. So IF you are willing to be patient and READ the instructions, you can get it to work. Truth be told, I thought I was filing for clearance, so I overdid it and the safety did not work. Lucky for me, I had a friend that welded back on a bead for me to try it again. I did a better job of studying my stock safety and was able to file the Wilson Combat safety as needed to dial it in to function as intended. It works great! Study your stock safety and go SLOW!

Better than the stock rail mount

Written on Jul 06, 2019

This Pic rail mount is solid aluminum construction with black anodize coating. The overall height is slightly higher than the stock rail mount, but it has clearance down the middle of it so that you can continue to use the iron sights. (For what? if you are going to attach optics to the pic rail anyway...) The holes line up exactly with the Ruger receiver threaded holes. The underside is cut to match the curved surface of the receiver top. Comes with the screws. If I were to have a complaint, it would be that I was aligning it with screws and not a pin or datum surface / edge. This is more of a pick on the 10/22 itself and not the Leapers Pic rail. Just take your time and square it up when attaching and you should be fine. Very well made.

Another great product from Uncle Mikes

Written on Jul 06, 2019

I have had Uncle Mikes holsters for years. So when I needed a range bag for my rifle, when I saw these from Uncle Mikes, I did not hesitate. Plenty of padding. Has the main compartment as well as a second one behind the three side pockets. Comes with a shoulder strap that connects to D-rings on the back side. High quality zippers and buckles. You should get years of service from it. Since buying the first, I have added two more.
