Good rail but heavy

Written on Nov 26, 2017

Traded up my H&K416 for a Colt M4 but was missing all the rail space a 416 offers. Bought the Troy Charlie rail for the Colt and got exactly what it advertises. 2 QD mounts on each side, and most importantly, rail space in front of the front sight post where I found my hand constantly trying to go. I try to keep my rifles basic so all I really had was a Surefire Scout light at the forward 3 o'clock position, pressure pad on top, hand stop on bottom. One thing I couldn't get used to was 1) the big weight difference between the Knights Armament carbine length rails that came off the gun and 2) the girth of the rail. The weight was not too big of an issue. but the balance of the rifle is what got affected the most. The Colt became exactly what I didn't like about the 416, a forward top heavy rifle. Also the rail is fat, not like the fat girl you don't want to dance with at the club, but more like the thick girl that you'll pump a few drinks into at 1230 kind of fat. For me and my medium size hands, it was just a little too much. If you don't mind a little weight and girth to your rifle, you'll love the rail. Once installed the rail is SOLID and very well built. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in the worst conditions. However, me and the rail didn't jive so unfortunately this big girl had to go back to herd. Switched back to the Knights Armament rails. Would still recommend but with caution.
