Color Aberration is unacceptable.

Written on Dec 17, 2015

I looked at many options before deciding on the Zeiss Terra 3X. I was initially impressed with its clarity, reticle and weight. I was looking for a light weight scope that was of good quality as well as light weight to use on a rifle that I would be hunting as well as target shooting with. I think this scope would be a fairly decent hunting scope. The scope has good brightness and the reticle is easy to see in lower light.

However, as far as target shooting goes it is MUCH worse than scopes I have used that cost half as much. The color aberration on high contrast targets is absolutely horrible. I was shooting, or rather attempting to shoot, at bright orange 3", stick on, circles. the fringing was so bad I could not accurately find the center of the target. The orange circles appeared to move around by approximately 3/8" with even the slightest movement of my head while the black circle that was a ring around the orange stayed perfectly still. This was extremely disconcerting and made centering the target an exercise in futility.

Now I will be relegating this scope to another rifle that I don't intend to do more than sighting in for hunting with regard to target shooting.
