Phase 5 AR10 Extended Bolt Release V2

Written on Apr 07, 2026

First of all, I like Phase 5 products. I have three of this type of bolt release on my AR15s. I’m building my first AR10, so I went with this same type of bolt release! I went with the simple black version, but this is where I would rethink that choice in the future. The black finish (I’m not an expert in various finishes) was very “powdery” and rubbed off quite easily on my cleaning towel. I used Shooter Lube cleaner to wipe it off and the results were acceptable. Next time, I’ll go with a color that has a different type of finish like the other models I have. Now here is where my problem is with this product and it is NOT the fault of the product! I chose a Juggernaut JT-10 stripped upper and lower and started from there. The JT-10 is a quality product and is best suited for states that are not as stupid as CA with their draconian laws, as most of a normal build would go without any issues. That said, the lower receiver is built very strongly with reinforcement bosses built in (all over the place, but I didn’t see the potential issues when I bought it). It is one of these reinforcement bosses that get in the way of the travel of the Phase 5 actuating arm and don’t allow the product to function at all! So the options are to dremel away the offending boss to get the proper range of motion, cut off the actuating arm at the “5” logo, return the item and go with a different bolt catch. I’m going to keep it for now, but I did go with another bolt catch and may take m

Walnut stock for Mossberg 500

Written on Jul 02, 2024

First of all, I really like this stock. The finish is flawless and the color is perfect. I actually paired this stock with a Woox forend and the two go together very well. The color is almost an exact match in this case. I liked a more traditional look than the Woox stock and it is quite a bit less expensive. I had to make a few small adjustments with a file and sanding block for a good fit and the stock Mossberg mounting bolt was too short. I trip to Home Depot and a new bolt fixed that problem (the bolt access hole could have been a little deeper, but I was not taking a drill bit to my new stock!). I bolted everything up and I’m super happy with the result. If I had to be a little critical with the product, I would say that the junction where the stock contacts the receiver could have a slightly tighter transitional profile and tighter tolerances. When you have the original polymer stock with a perfect match, you could see the differences. But with a wooden stock, right out of the box, I’s say that this is an awesome alternative to plastic.
