Best Gerneral Purpose Magnifier

Written on Sep 05, 2018

This is the second Zeiss magnifier I have purchased. The first was a D12. This one provides about 2.7X magnification and is more comfortable to use, creating a larger image than the D12 at slightly lower magnification. Net result is that my wife has taken possession of the D6 and I have my D12 back.

Outstanding

The description of this item along with the rest of the line, could be better. The Diopter specification is more technical than magnifying power. Specifically it is 1/focal length in meters, for this lens, a bit over 3 inches an The image that it produces depends on two distances: object to lens and lens to eye. In general, this lens will provide 3X to 3.5X magnification. Higher magnifications result when the eye is about 10" from the lens. Holding that constant, magnification is based on the object to lens distance, but a particular distance will yield the best focus.
The bottom line is that the magnifier is comfortable to use, works far enough away from the object so as not to interfere with lighting and has a comfortable lens to eye distance.
Worth the money.

Excellent Performance

I never had the chance to use a high quality magnifier until I bought this one. It is a pleasure to use, with a comfortable viewing distance that makes ordinary magnifiers seem like loupes. The resolution is excellent, revealing far more detail than a lesser lens with the same focal length (diopter = 1/focal length in meters).
