Ice cold performane

Written on Dec 29, 2017

Bought to replace a broken Konus as an internal rod came loose that now rolls around and rattles as well as it was greased and came in contact with the front glass. I shoot service rifle in CMP matches so for practice I need to identify .223 at 200yds on black targets. I took this scope out on dec 22 17 for an hour and a half, it was 23f, completely overcast, and the range was covered in snow, and ice was on the shooting bench. The angled Vortex Diamondback 20 60x80 preformed flawlessly and showing no fogging, no distortion at edges, clear glass provided quick sighting of .223 bullet holes out at 200 yards and maybe more but that was max for this range. Seems build quality is solid and performance is spot on for the designated task described above. After the failure of my last scope, which at its best was was no competition against this Diamondback, I wanted better clarity on seeing .223 holes at 200 and a more substantial backing of the product with a serious warranty by the maker, which it seems I know have both.

Wiley-x p-17 Rx prescription Sunglasses from optics planet

Written on May 15, 2016

This was my second prescription glasses that i have ordered and received from optics planet. For the second time the prescription eye-wear customer service team was helpful in answering my questions and thorough in their followup with me to confirm i was getting the correct frame/lens for my needs. I got this pair for shooting and other outdoor needs as well as needing a pair of rated safety glasses. After receipt of the glasses i am more than pleased with the eye-wear. They are actually superb - everyday wearable sunglasses. For the shooting positions prone and barricade as well as transitions to new targets they offer a great field of vision and very clear lenses. In addition the safety rating should be addressed because it has according to WileyX "meets ANSI Z87.1-2010 High Velocity and High Mass Impact Standards as well as US Federal OSHA 1910.133(b)(1)(1) Standards". after looking those things up I found in short it means they have passed two tests. 1. - A lens retention test is conducted via a “high mass” impact. A pointed 500 gm (1.1 lb) projectile is dropped 50 inches onto the complete protector mounted on a headform. and 2- A high velocity test is conducted, at 6 specified impact points, where the projectile is a ¼ inch steel ball traveling at specific speeds depending upon the type of protector. For spectacles, the velocity is 150 ft/sec or 102 mph.
to sum up - The glasses are the real deal.

Vortex Viper - HST how did this get past quality control

Written on Apr 07, 2016

On 3/9/16 i purchased the vortex viper hst. on 3/16 the scope was delivered. On 3/18 I went to mount the scope and found that it had a critical defect - the variable ring was loose and and it would not engage to track correctly going up or down in magnification. I thought a new $500 + scope should be flawless out of the box (the box was not sealed in plastic like a Leopold - so who knows if this scope was a prior return or whatever - but in my book new means sealed). I contacted optics planet for the return as if this brand does this out of the box, what happens after use? I shipped it back to optics planet that day and they acknowledged receipt on 3/23 along with a statement that the item had to be evaluated before a return was processed. I phoned them a few times to find out the status and could not get a well defined target date for a finalization but was told "they would evaluate it per there return policy". Well it took until 4/7 for my Paypal credit to show the refund. So I had planed to use the scope on a hunt - that did not pan out and I did not see my money back until 3 days prior to one full month since I paid my hard earned money for a scope that somehow made it through the channels unchecked, at both companies. I understand vortex preaches on customer service, but i really do not want to experience that for a scope out of the box that was defective. Rethought what happened and realized the old saying - buy once cry once - I got a leupold vx-6. As far as Opt

Prescription Eyeglasses EA1006 Armani's from Optics Planet

Written on Mar 08, 2016

I have Bought optics and other gear related things from Optics Planet. I have always been satisfied with the selection and price. I was a bit concerned to buy eye glasses online but i spoke to the customer service representative who was exceptionally helpful and took the time to explain the process and answer my questions and concerns. Bottom line was that i will order glasses from optics planet in the future and recommend them as well. Great Selection better price than local shops with great communication and even better service. :)

5.11 Tactical Rush Moab 6 - Me Likey

Written on Feb 02, 2016

Ordered my Moab 6 from optics planet due to it being in stock and a having a good price. I have had to return and item in the past and it was super easy, so I am really comfortable using them for all my optics, gear and accessory purchases. The Moab 6 was the perfect size pack for me - right in the middle of being not to small and not to big. It has special pockets for just about everything you need to have with you - like cell phone - ccw weapon (pocket is "hidden" and closed with Velcro to make accessible quickly). There are straps on the front and side for adding additional molle based products and this pack has an attachment for securing it to bigger packs. Materials and construction seem to be meant to last a life time. There is 2 places to place patches that will individualize your bag and give it a personality. Bottom line is this "go bag" is ready to go.
