Tactical Rab from United States, OH Public Profile
BUIS are a must-have on any civilian defense rifle, but fitting BUIS under modern sighting systems such as an LPVO or ACOG can be challenging depending on your preferred sight height and scope. The Scalar Works BUIS are very low profile when folded, extremely lightweight and look very sleek on the rifle. There are 2 downsides however, one is that the zero / windage adjustment is extremely stiff and the knob does not have a lot of purchase thus adjusting it can be difficult. Additionally, the detent for changing the aperture is very weak and so the aperture can be off-center or even blocked depending on how aggressive you handle the rifle. It’s nice you can flip between a normal and a night/CQB aperture but the detent is so weak it does not inspire confidence that it can keep a zero.
As a machinist I'm very familiar with the use of shims, deformable washers and other precision equipment to ensure alignment and precision when attaching various components.
After using the accu-washers, I'm never going back. The install process is almost mindless it is so easy:
1. Use thickest washer, hand thread on the muzzle device and estimate rotation needed to time correctly.
2. Select appropriate washer based on included chart, clean barrel threads and muzzle device threads
3. Use appropriate washer, apply rocksett to threads and torque on muzzle device.
Canted dots are great for 3-gun competitions where you may not want to lose time adjusting an LPVO for targets within 50 yards. RMR footprint is very common and allows mounting of the same red dot across your pistol and rifle building muscle memory and visual familiarity.
I've shot behind an SRO both on a Carry Optics built CZ Shadow 2 and on a canted ADM mount for a 3-gun built AR. The large window, slightly tinted glass and crisp dot make finding the dot and getting shots on target fast and easy.
The goal was to build a rifle for competition and range use with a very specific aesthetic. This fit all the boxes: Adjustable gas, retro/ GWOT looks. The picture doesn't show it but there is a dimple to cross-drill for a pin, and JP includes a coil-spring pin for install (please note coil-spring pins are safe to remove and re-install multiple times unlike other FSP pins.)
The only downside is this is an A2 HEIGHT front sight. That means its designed for carry-handle uppers, if you install this on a flat-top AR, you have to install an extended front sight pin to line-up with any BUIS you may have.
I ordered this in conjunction with a KRAM 7.0 riser for a 3-gun focused AR15. ADM has a firm and easy to use QD system, ands the riser allows the ACOG to be mounted far enough back to retain proper eye relief. Clears the Scalarworks folding irons on the back of the rifle, mount is short enough to allow a canted red dot in front, but some irons that are longer or some handguards with short rails may find this mount does not allow any more accessories on the top.
