High Value Budget Friendly 1-6X
Written on Apr 08, 2017
This scope is just what I needed for my AR15. I was looking for a 1-4x or 1-6x scope that was durable and “good enough” for plinking, 3 gun, etc. I wanted something that I could use primarily during daylight hours and occasionally at twilight or low light conditions. This scope fit the bill. As for quality and usefulness here are my observations.
Glass- Its relatively clear and bright but don’t expect perfection. There is some edge to edge distortion throughout the magnification but the center remains clear. Reticle is etched and illuminated. I found the illumination useful when transitioning from bright to shaded areas. Just point the scope at the darkest area you are shooting and adjust the brightness to your liking. When you transition from dark to bright areas your reticle may not appear illuminated but once you return to the dark area you will be able to see the lit reticle.
Controls- relatively smooth with clear detent and audible clicks. The zoom/magnification ring is stiff but I assume this will loosen in time with use. The .5 MOA adjustments are good although they have a very short throw so it’s easy to click through 2 or 3 when you only needed 1.
Build- solidly built scope. The body is smooth and color is even throughout.
Warranty- Vortex warranty is best in the business.
Overall, the Vortex Strike Eagle is a quality scope. Its value exceeds the cost of admission.
