Tennessee Hunter from United States, TN Public Profile
Bought this scope for a "walking varminter" Kimber 84M in 22-250. Was a little worried about having a 14X on the high end of the magnification without an adjustable objective but mirage hasn't been an issue as of yet. I don't plan on shooting 1000 yards anyway but a 500 yard poke at a furbearing varmint is certainly feasible with this setup. Was also a little worried about the light transmission at high end in low light conditions but the scope is actually brighter than my old eyes are in low light. I can't figure it out but I can tell you that I can see through this scope in low light when I can't see with my naked eyes (actually wearing glasses but you get the jist). There are probably better options for prairie dog hunters and the like but my varminting is limited to coyotes, fox, buzzards and armadillos. Ordering the CDS dial today and looking forward to experimenting with that new toy. I love the idea of a 400 yard zero with a click stop for 450 and 500 yards. I am cheating a little on the range because all the shots are in 40 acre plots with baited corners and the longest shot will likely be 440 yards from a rest off the top of a round bail. Kinda cheating I guess but I see no need to make the critters suffer when I can get comfy and make quick and clean kills. Haven't used this in the field yet, just punching holes in paper and working up handloads but the scope is a keeper and for the money I don't think there is a better buy out there. If there is, let me know!
These rings mounted very securely and to my surprise showed no need to lap or true according to my Kokopelli scope alignment bars. Perfectly true rings for bargain prices for a rimfire. Why can't everything be this easy?
