I have "old" eyes. Am a good shooter, but no longer have ability to easily focus rear sight/front sight/target. The 07 "paints" the target so am just focused on target -- with both eyes open. The sight is on a Glock 17 4th gen RMR and is for on-duty carry, almost all at night. The both eyes open tactical awareness is critical, and for me the extra "magic" is in how quickly I can acquire second and third targets. My peripheral vision picks up where I want to go next, and I can just pretty much "snap" to the spot I want.
Battery v no battery: the "dual power" models have no batteries, but when inside a semi-dark building looking out at object(s) in bright sunlight, the tritium dot isn't bright enough, and the fiber optics can't gather enough light to make the dot visible either. With the battery powered, I can set the dot where I want it and forget it.
Ditto for when, at night, I turn on pistol light, going from dark to 600 lumens. The no-battery dual power sight can't handle that, either, for the same reasons.
Haven't had the battery go dead on my yet, but have the co-witness suppressor-height sights for backup. For fastest acquisition, I still think "sights" when drawing and as I do that, when the dot "appears" only then do I shift focus to that. IMO would be a lot tougher to build the muscle memory to quickly pick up the dot without the sights there to get me in the ballpark.
No, the dot isn't too small - if you want bigger, just turn up the brightness. Seems
