Best Laptop Case in 30+ Years

Written on Aug 19, 2025

I have been using laptops for work and home for just over 30 years and been through a lot of cases. My cases get swung in vehicles, jerked up to my shoulder, hang from the shoulder strap as I run up stairs, bounce off every seat back as I walk down the airplane isle, plus, my bags need to carry a 17" laptop, its charger, a 6 port USB charger, two padded folders with writing pads, an external mouse, mouse-pad, assorted cables, writing instruments, and a few personal items...in short, it is heavy. EVERY laptop case I ever owned ultimately failed in the same place; where the shoulder strap attaches to the sewn on tab on the side of the case, a connection that must take ALL the static and dynamic loads. On the side of the case the tab starts tearing the side fabric! Instead of a sewn-on tab, THIS CASE HAS a wide strap that starts on one side and is sewn all the way down the side, across the bottom, and up the other side. Carrying this case by the shoulder strap puts virtually no strain on the side fabric. I will never again worry about it failing.

Between the interior compartments and the 3 molle compartments on the outside, this case allows me to organize what I usually carry.

The removable padded sleeve for protecting the laptop has a handle and can be used on its own.

The only negative is that it is only available in multicam which I fear upsets many members of the public, especially when carrying it on an airplane. I wish they made it in black and/or coyote brown. I would

Exellence in design and construction

Written on Oct 19, 2023

15 years ago I bought a, Eberlestock "Operator" backpack. It has been all over Texas, including the Chisos Basin back country in Big Bend several times, with a 60 to 70 lb load, including 3 liters of water in each side pocket. While not a "lightweight" piece of gear, it has held up so well it still looks almost new, and the design was well thought out for organizing your gear. The Atlas Duffel roll-aboard* shows the same excellence in BOTH design and construction. I expect it to be the last one I will need to buy. I would call the price a "con" but quality is cheapest in the long run. Based on my two purchases I would recommend anything made by Eberlestock!

*I called it a "roll-aboard", but I think it is too large to be an commercial airline "carry on" bag.
