Well built, but may add more weight and potentially disrupt reliable cycling

Written on Apr 20, 2025

I bought this item for the folding function in order to better transport two ARs in pelican rifle case and to add a little length of pull to my light weight (<7lb) pistol build.

The LAW tactical folder was easy to install following the directions, the “cool factor” was there, and it is very well built and the folding mechanism functioned great.

However it added more weight to the gun than I had expected, upsetting the balance and ergonomics that I was going for when I built the gun.

I also have a perfectly tuned adjustable gas block for shooting suppressed 300 subs, and run a JP silent captured spring - this folder requires a conversion kit (+$100) in order to cycle the bolt using the JP SCS. That addition added more weight, money, and another factor in reliable cycling and tuning that I didn’t care for -on this gun. It works great on my 16” build, since I don’t care about the weight or need to tune much to cycle.

For the purpose of this current build it just didn’t make sense to sacrifice the weight, cycling factor, and money (~$350 +S/H) just for the ability to fold the gun when I can take the upper off with the pins during transport or carry concealed if I need a lightweight compact solution.

Fair option

Easy installation.
Near full charge out of the box.
I like the option for high or low lumens, great illumination.

I did experienced some initial issues with activating the light after toggling back and forth through high and low settings, it would not turn on despite a full charge.

Removing the battery and reinstalling solved this but because of that I don’t trust this on an EDC.

I also didn’t care for the activation switch - it’s soft and doesn’t offer a positive tactile or auditory feedback like other companies.

Not necessary

Purchased this to protect the Sentinel 2. However the Ironside blocks adjustment buttons on the side of the Sentinel 2, also the Sentinel 2 seems hardy enough that this is not needed and takes away from the aesthetic that Swampfox has designed - made the it look cheap.
