In My Own Words:
Long distance - the next best thing to being there.
It's a bit early to writing reviews. First impressions: extremely impressed. I did not think I would be impressed. This is not my first EOTech. Mine arrived in perfect shape. Looks like a museum piece. The mount seems well made along with the rest of it. It installed simply. Goes on and off very fast. The holdover dots inside aren't worth much without the magnifier, however. They almost look like a vertical line w/o magnification (especially for not the best eyes). So, you need the magnifier to make them usable. And they are usable with the magnifier. But I would think unless you plan on doing all kinds of distance shooting - you wouldn't want all that in there cluttering up your field of view. I wanted the option because I like shooting at distance and can on a farm. Shooting close, just put your target on top of the dotted line. Which can be in the way a bit - if you aren't using them. Turn the brightness down a bit so you can see past them. I'm very happy with it so far.
For twice the price you won't have a much better scope. It might be slightly better but certainly not a thousand dollars better. I've been looking at all possible scopes for a long time for 2 RPR, an Mk3 DTR2 and a knights SR-25 gen 1. Planned on buying a variety. Leupold, Burris, Night Force, etc. But this Vortex is virtually as good for, in some cases, half the price. I got the mrad Christmas tree reticle. So you can hold over and hold up without dialing in your scope. One thing you have to be sure of, in this situation is that the scope is on perfectly level - when you're not using the center of the scope. Lastly, I would try to buy from Optics Planet - even if you have to wait a bit. If you see one in Stock elsewhere stating one left or limited stock - it's their display that their going to box up and sell it to you as if it's new. This is my 3rd Vortex Viper. They are all perfect and all flawless.
Don't squat in the corner of your bunker waiting to die like some steerage passenger on the Titanic. Get one of these and save the world. Supplemental items you will need: Detergent - most definitely. Beef Jerky - absolutely. You'll also want an aluminum baseball bat, a machete, a 12 gauge shotgun, an M4, lots and lots of ammo and toilet paper.
