Can't go wrong with the Epsilon. My wife and I both use the Epsilon on our 18" SPR's they are mated to 223 Wylde Match Barrels by Faxon. We have tried them on a 16" BCM, have one on a 18" Ultra Match Rainier Arms, and a couple of Colt carbines. On the 18 inchers there is zero muzzle rise or side to side motion. Any felt recoil in a light push. We also run RE buffers so recoil really doesn't exist. My wife's times have improved by seconds and our last few friendly competitions she out shot 3 of us. Depending on your shooting position there is a slight concussion and in the prone position depending on soil composition it may get dusty. A little dirt in your teeth and thump in the chest is part of the enjoyment of shooting and I see it a none issue. As for longevity there is a few thousand rounds that has gone through one of them with no sign of erosion. I feel they are just as good as SJC or BC and for the cost of $48 for black and $68 for SS finish you can't beat it. Be safe and enjoy.
I was looking for a reliable beater scope for getting into the thickets. Price was right and being it's a Luepold VX3 reliability it there. I placed this on top of a 18" Savage 338 WM in Talley mounts. I took it to the range put 40 rounds down range with no issues. I took it out in the field and used it for 12 days of pure torture. It was banged around in thick woods, blow downs, traversing rocky outcrops, rain, and snow. About the only thing I didn't do with it was paddle a canoe. I haven't shot it since my 1st range trip and one shot across a ravine while chasing Yogi last fall. I took it to the range over the weekend and put 3 rounds MOA at 50yrds on the lowest magnification and another three inside 2" at 100yrds on the highest. It has a couple of scratches from the field but other than that it's still spot on.
Purchased the 5HD last year during one of Optics Planets "killer deals". Shipping was fast. Packaging was good by OP. I've spent a small fortune on optics the last year this is the 3rd scope I received with a white residue on it. I've called Luepold and they say it's from waterproof testing. It cleans of fairly easy but you would think QC would take care of it. As far as the overall fit and finish I found no defects in finish or adjustments. The Scope with its 30mm tube is big. In medium mounts it sits just a touch off a Weatherby 7mm barrel. Clarity and low light capabilities meet my expectations. Tested it on a overcast rainy day and was amazed how much brighter it was than the 3-9x50 at 200 yards. Easily was able to count the eyelashes on a doe. At night it really shines, no issue in picking off a couple yotes at long range. Good all purpose getter dun hunting scope. Still working up a load for the CDS. Overall for the extra couple hundred dollars over a vx3 it's well worth it.
Fit and finish is typical Leupold. I re-scoped all my rifles this year and spent a small fortune. Interesting thing is out of the 6 luepold's I purchased 3 of them had a white residue on them. Called Leupold they said it was from the waterproof testing they did. It came off fairly easy. Just seemed like that would be something done in Oregon. Other than that no issues. Sighted in and been to the range a few times and everything is G2G.
