AR cover does the job

Written on Sep 29, 2016

It's an anti-reflective cover. It works. With absolutely no surprise, there was really no surprise! :) This is a solid, well made piece that appears to be machined from Al alloy. Very nice quality and finish.

I'll note that as this is for the Burris 536, the optic comes with an objective shroud that 1) may make this redundant at some level, and 2) does force you to choose the shroud vs. this cover (they both thread onto the optic using the same attach point).

Which brings us to really the only 'con'...and I use that term loosely: the thread pitch is very fine and, combined with the relatively large diameter, means you need to fettle and take care when threading the AR device (or shroud) onto the optic. If you have done something similar previously, this is old news. Just a note for anyone new to the fun.

While OP always offers the best deal, I do think the price on this is a little rich; but it is in line with other, like pieces.

Fantastic semi-budget red dot

Written on Sep 29, 2016

Yes, it is made in China.
No, it is not an Aimpoint.

BUT, this thing is really, really good. The optical clarity is unbelievable (better than Aimpoint??). The swtichable dot / circle-dot reticle is the gold standard from my POV; no idea why others arent doing this more prolifically. The form & fit are really good, again I think better than Aimpoint (no big knob on the side), so field of view is really good for an optic of this package. Really, there are no weak points I can note. I dont use NV, so am excluding that aspect from consideration. The OE mounts, while not QR, are also completely functional and repeatable when mounted thoughtfully.

Compared to my EOTech, this thing holds its own. Buy w/ confidence if you think it fits your bill.

EOTech: Still excellent

Written on Sep 27, 2016

People get freaked about the government lawsuit; screaming that EOTech was knowingly deceptive. I suspect few of those folks are lawyers! Lawsuits are often not about right/wrong, but dollars/cents. The fact that EOTech offered their buyback actually makes them about as standup as possible in my eyes.

So, hype and paranoia aside, this is still a great optic: indeed one of the best you can get in non-magnified. There is no 'issue' with it that doesnt exist in ANY OTHER OPTIC. fact. If you aren't familiar with CTE and differential expansion, that's OK. Just know that there is nothing wrong with this HWS design and, if you find yourself transformed from one temp extreme to another, any accuracy issues are slight and likely the least of your problems.

I wanted to try out the '2-dot' BDC reticle. I'm still torn on whether it is 'too busy' or beneficial, but so far it has worked just as expected, which is to say reliably and accurately.

So, if anything other than features is keeping you from getting one, worry not and have at it. You will not be disappointed.
