My 8th SV-5 for a for a Viper PST Gen2

Written on Apr 14, 2026

Not cheap, but reliable. Backed with the Vortex name, if you do have a problem. Most knockoffs are cheaper, but I like to buy once. Unfortunately the most recent one took 3 months to ship…

Hard Hitting, Standard Pressure Load

Written on Mar 16, 2025

I’ve run over 300 of these through a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter Bisley. Groups decent and hits hard. When shooting 3/8” AR500 targets, I don’t find much more than the flattened gas check, which is a neat souvenir. It does leave a slight indentation on the target surface. Doesn’t seem to lead up, but the powder does seem to gunk up the base pin.

Most economical option available

I have a .30-06 Bergara Ridge that I switched into an HMR stock and matching bottom metal. Reading lots of reviews was pretty confused on which direction to go in. My factory 180gr Norma Bondstrike fit perfectly, with an extra 1/4” of length available for longer seating/longer projectiles in custom loads. Follower seems to track well. There is a little movement in in all directions in magwell, but seems locked in and feeds well. These are ~$40 when steel mags can be close to a C note a piece. Buy with confidence that these should work, but others may sit prettier in your magwell at a cost.

200279 is the ticket

I have bought two of these in the last month. This is my first Burris product. This may be the nicest scope in its class. For what it is advertised, it is. Glass seems very clear; dryfire practice in lowlight around the house, I can still see reticle clearly. Capped turrets have a decent indexing. Scope has a heft that seems well built. I just wish that it had a lit reticle, which could be as simple as a “fire dot” in the middle of the duplex. I do like the ballistic holds, although I have had not had much time to play with yet. The eyepiece has to be adjusted appropriately to make out these small holdovers. I bought one for a 22 WMR revolver, almost as a test. I just mounted an identical one on a 44RM revolver. One thing that I did not like, was how on one the locking ring for the eyepiece was torqued down to the point where pliers were necessary to loosen it from the factory. Boxes were sealed with plastic wrap, so you know that the product has not been messed with.

I’m a huge Vortex Viper PST Gen2 fan. It’s very disappointing that Vortex can’t produce a product to compete in this market.

Desert dirt

Written on Sep 12, 2024

Not cheap but a quality ambidextrous charging handle. I purchased two years ago and don’t regret, but there are becoming more and more similar products on the market, at slightly more economical prices. I’m left handed and wish that all ARs shipped with ambidextrous charging handles. The desert dirt color is nice too, to help the overall look of a black AR not match all of the other completely black ARs. I’m not an operator, but I like the width.

I know that this is advertised as being for the AR platform, but in my assessment really designed for a firearm with a picatinny rail and the scope mounted with a cantilever or one-piece style mount; because ultimately you just need clearance between the scope’s eyepiece and picatinny slots available. Price is fair for what it is, but product quality is exceptional; built in a small US facility. Very nice finish to aluminum, with a fairly large cross bolt allowing level to be torqued down. The packaging was very simple, I just wish there were instructions on torquing specs (I didn’t see on their website either. This was where I had a few questions. Based off of previously read reviews, I thought that there was a small chance that it may have been too snug for some picatinny rails. I tried on two guns. On my CZ Scorpion 3+ Carbine, it was very snug on the receiver’s plastic picatinny. I felt like if I truly wanted to mount it, I could have worked it on there, but didn’t because I really wanted it on my Ruger SR-556. On the Ruger it was loose, it took 20in.lbs. before the level housing started to bite the rail. Based on bolt diameter and no specific suggestion handy, I took it to 35 in.lbs. (I may even take it further after more reading). I will say from what I saw if it was just a little too snug for your rail, their is a rather generous split in the aluminum housing, where you may be able to gently splay with a wedge and light mallet. From what I’ve seen so far. I believe it

Easy button for mounting the bipod

Written on Sep 01, 2024

Flat back is great for modern tactical stocks that have a flatter forearm.

No regrets

Written on Sep 01, 2024

This is not a cheap bipod, but with the upgrades on this model it is super user friendly and easy to adjust from one firearm to another. I have three guns that I move this between, but it is so easy to move and adjust that it is easily doable. Great picatinny mounting clamp with adjustment for the variances in different rail widths. I like my Harris’, but this is a Cadillac in comparison.
