I purchased this through Pulsar a few months ago as no one else had it in stock. I must first say I have several Thermals to compare this to so this is not my first go-round.
I have a Armasite Zeus 640 60hz which I use on my 300 BLK SBR and also a ATN Thor4 on a bolt action 300 BLK.
Price notwithstanding, the Krypton is hands down the top notch option here as youd expect. The issue with most thermals is the resolution at magnification. This thing is essentially a 1"x2" ultra HD screen which you mount in front of your day scope with the help of a variety of adaptor rings (depending on the package you buy, you get most of these).
Pulsar says the max magnification you want to use is 6x, thats because you have zero loss in clarity. But I can tell you, I have had this up to 20x and was able to hit a steel target in the dead of night at 500 yds. Of course, this is not a typical use and the farther you zoom in the darker the image appears as the focal point looses light and your essentially staring at a spot about half the size of a dime on the unit's screen. You can absolutely use 12x power all day with excellent imagery as I shoot coyotes at 300 yds easily with my .308 with zero quality loss in resolution.....especially compared to my zeus which only has digital magnification.
The battery life is outstanding.
I think this is the same base unit they use for the Thermion 2 XL50 without the bells and whistles like range finder, etc.
