Easy to setup, use and collect data from...but where is the measurement being taken?

Written on Apr 06, 2025

This compact little device works well. It is easy to deploy and use. It will NOT register all the shots if you are rapid firing--as in controlled pairs. It seems to want a couple of seconds between each shot.

We also do not know where in the trajectory the velocity measurement is being taken. I have asked Garmin customer service to tell me how long the device takes between receipt of the firing impulse and the first Doppler pulse train so I can calculate how far in front of the muzzle the projectile is. This distance is an important input for ballistic calculations.

I also had some initial installation and connection issues with ShotView on my iPhone 11. The app would not let me get past the account creation step for some reason. It took a call to Garmin Customer Support to get it sorted out.

Mechanically flimsy. Built more for looks than function

Written on Apr 19, 2024

You get what you pay for. The entire design sacrifices mechanical robustness for $$...it's built mainly for its looks. That said, a 22LR has virtually no impulse so it shouldn't come apart anytime soon. It's just not very structurally well built.

I sent it back to OP and reinstalled the original walnut stock.

Do some research before you buy this item - this is just the chassis/fwd stock

Written on Dec 17, 2023

The MDT chassis is a nice piece of kit. Be advised though, the picture associated with this item at the time of writing implies that you are buying the whole kit: forward stock, hand grip, and butt stock. But only the forward stock (called the chassis) is being sold here. Once you figure that out (usually when you receive half of what you thought you were paying for) you'll need to go shopping for the other half. Note that the full kit will run you about $1k US by the time you're done.

Manufacturing is top drawer and the presentation is well done. It's earned the 5 stars.

OPTICS PLANET - PLEASE CHANGE THE PICTURES TO SHOW JUST THE CHASSIS, NOT THE WHOLE STOCK SYSTEM.

High-quality Steel Rings

Written on Apr 27, 2021

Marked on top with the Sig logo, these are precisely-made steel scope rings. Make sure you select the right height for the rings. With a Sig Tango 4 scope I went with the medium height for an AR setup.

As with most things, you get what you pay for

Written on Sep 02, 2017

As a previous reviewer has indicated, this is not really a "safe." It is more of a thin-gauge steel, weapon lock box. If you don't secure it to the floor it can easily be picked up and carried away, weapons and all. The biometric lock is not fool-proof. I have all 8 fingers and both thumbs stored and it opens for me about 60% of the time first try. I have big hands too so its not a small print problem. Your fingers need to be placed just so. I rather think the issue must be in the simple matching algorithm used by the reader and lock controller. When it does work, the door unlocks in about 2-3 seconds.
It also makes a lot of noise when the door is being opened or closed normally. There is something in the door mechanism which swings back and forth clanging against the sheet steel panels and makes a racket. If you were trying to open this silently you better be slow and smooth otherwise everyone nearby will hear you.
It is also pretty small inside. The shelf cannot be adjusted up or down so long-barreled rifles may not fit well. An AR with a red dot installed will only fit sideways - the door will not close otherwise.
This "safe" can probably keep inquisitive young folks at bay, but it will not stop a determined thief.
