Beretta 92 MT-5103 mount for the Razor red dot does not work for the Beretta 92A1

Written on Apr 27, 2020

Vortec's "sight adapter" (the dovetailed piece that replaces the rear sight) prevents the left side of the pistol's "safety/decocking lever" being able to rotate fully into firing position. This prevents the firing pin (located in the lever's shaft) from rotating into place where it can be struck by the hammer. I unfortunately discovered this after spending considerable time on a diamond sharpening stone getting the adapter to fit. The mount's "base plate" is a large plastic molding that doesn't really fit the shape of the top of the 92A1's slide. The base plate's "alignment bumps" don't line up with the holes in the "mounting shim". Finally, the sight attachment screws, both those that come with the mount and the Razor, are too short.
So what to do? The adapter can't be shortened to the width of the rear sight's dovetail because of the location of the Razor's mounting screws. I suppose the left rear of the adapter could be filed away to remove the part that obstructs the safety lever, or the left side of the lever could likewise be filed (ruining the gun's finish). And the other things could be fixed with effort. But WTF? I'm returning the Razor and its troublesome mount and will continue looking for a red dot that will fit my gun.
