Tim M.'s Review of CAA Micro Conversion Kit for Smith & Wesson M&P 9/40/M2.0

I ordered a CAA MCK GEN1 for my Smith and Wesson M&P 40 (1.0) Full Size. It was on sale for a great discount (and already pretty cost-effective), and I wanted to show "Old Reliable" some love beyond normal upkeep and cleaning. After countless hours of digging around the internet, watching and reading about reviews, and some back-and-forth between working with what I have, or just buying an "upgrade" home defense and an MCK GEN2, I decided to do what I could, with what I had. I have to say, hands down, I was impressed and happy right out of the box, even knowing it was a GEN1 MCK and didn't have some of the updates of the GEN2.

NOTE: CAA hasn't released a GEN2 MCK for the Smith and Wesson M&P 1.0 Full size. However the GEN1 MCK is available.

The Directions for set-up were very easy to follow, and it was very quick and simple to reconfigure it from compact to full size for fitment (literally 2 screws, and the Allen wrench (included)). Took 2 minutes. I made sure to read and follow the manual 1. Out of curiosity, and 2. To make sure I didn't miss anything in the details (as the mating of the platform and MCK is very easy to begin with). I just believe in "Do it right, means do it once". It came together nicely, the ergonomics (even without the thumb rests (recommended BTW) were nice, optics and accessories mounted without issue, and it feels great in the hands. Front mag holder had no issues retaining a loaded 15 rd. .40 S&W Mag. Top rail is Polymer but an Aluminum rail and extended stock are available. The GEN1 S&W MCK will also work with M&P 2.0's.

Tip- I found it easiest to grip the front mag with my fingers and use the thumb to push down and away to release the mag from the retainer, to minimize awkward fumbling snatch-n-grabs (as the GEN1 does not incorporate the mag release button feature of the GEN2.)

To really maximize its employment and features, I recommend watching Mikey from CAA's demo's on the "ins-and-outs" of using MCK's and Roni's.

Overall, I'd buy it again, except next time I'm going for a GEN2. :)
