Celestron 130eq

by Bmik, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on May 26, 2018
Very nice scope. Excellent price. We have used the scope twice when we had clear weather. We were impressed with the images we were able to obtain with this budget scope. The scope also came with a motor drive that we didn’t realize it would have. We plan to add a couple of high quality televue eyepieces and possible try some photography with this setup. We will see how it goes, but so far we are very pleased.
Pros:
  • Very sturdy. Good optics. Great price
Cons:
  • Star finder was defective. Celestron sent us a part correcting the issue.
Best Used for:
  • Planetary Viewing

Good for beginners

by BlueEyedDevil, from NV, United States Written on November 24, 2017
I would recommend this product because it is a good scope for beginners to use and Celestron stands behind their product because I had a problem with my telescope and when I explained the issue to Customer Service they didn’t argue and try and say it was user issue they replaced a bad part again with no argument

130 EQ. With motor drive

by Jeff, from CT, United States Written on April 14, 2017
A good value for the money. Assembly is easy. The two eyepieces are adequate but you will upgrade magnification and filters. The star finder is not accurate. I had better luck looking down the tube. I only had one good night , but views of the moon were stunning and Jupiter were nice. Although my Lieca spotting scope was clearer. I brought the Cheshire tube for collimating. Don't bother, it's useless. The tripod is acceptable and fairly sturdy. All up a good telescope for the money

Great scope for beginners

by Rick King, from MS, United States Written on March 7, 2017
It's a great telescope for a beginner. The optics are pretty good. The motor drive is pretty much useless. I found it easier just to us the cables. The tripod is really well built. The star finder isn't even close to being accurate. I had to modify it to get it to work correctly. The optics are really good for the price. I don't like the way the scope mounts to the tripod. If u don't tighten it up a good bit, it will fall off. I'm a paraplegic and find it simple to set it up from my wheelchair. I can turn the scope to my eye level. Other than the few minor details, it's a great scope.
Pros:
  • easy setup and pretty decent optics
Cons:
  • star finder isnt accurate

paying twice for your telescope

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on January 27, 2012
Celestron requires you pay to ship the tripod to them when you recieved it broken, in effect making you pay an extra 30 bucks to get it fixed because of the crappy packaging layout they use to ship it. The eye piece lays against the clamps on the tripod in the shipping package, so any small jolt (and we know UPS is gonna throw it around) breaks the clamp. Seriously they need to change this package layout.
Pros: Easy to set up,
Cons: The tripod came broken in the box. Star finder sucks.
