Not bad for the price, pretty useful

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on February 28, 2013
It took some guesswork to figure out which way the batteries went in, it wasn't obvious and the directions didn't say. But I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality. I haven't used the video, just still images. The problem I have encountered is that sometimes I want to look closely at the surface of objects that may be on the order of 5 mm - 10 mm diameter, and they might not fit under the lens. So I have to hold the unit, which doesn't work as well.
Pros: Compact, good images if you're careful
Cons: Delicate battery compartment door, instructions lacking clarity, difficult to view larger objects
Would recommend: Yes

Celestron LCD handheld microscope/digital zoom

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on February 6, 2012
For the usage I needed, viewing coins, general microbiological items, fine print on jewelry, old items patent marks, this is exceptional for me. You can take pics, video on a card as well as set the general settings to view in different formats. ( i.e. monochrome, sepia, b&w, along with the ability to zoom up to 54x). Also you focus with the swipe of a finger, as the maneuverability is very good due to this item being lightweight and the actual portability enable you to get pretty good angles on a subject. My only con would be battery time is not good as they get used up quickly if doing longer studies on something. The compartment in which the batteries are stored is somewhat flimsy, in which Optic Planet graciously helped me with the problem I had without a hassle. Great company to work with.M The use of USB cable to transfer pics, videos to computer is quite simple and enables very good use of the SD card (not included) along with not having to install special software for the unit.
Pros: portability, various views/ ease of use
Cons: battery compartment and short time on battery usage
