CG-4 polar finder
Works well and easy to align to true north for astrophotography, but the only downfall is that its not illuminated. use a small led button cell flashlight off to one side. aligning instructions are poor, but any thinking person should be able to figure it out. Be patient aligning, took about 45 mins. to accomplish but once set you should not have to do it again. Make sure the etching is right side up, there are plastic washers in the threaded side of the original finderscope holder that you must use to achieve this, start with one at a time until this step is done.
Pros:
- Easy to use. Very clear optics
Cons:
- no illumination
Would recommend: Yes
Celestron Polar Finder for Omni CG-4 Mount
This is a great polar alignment scope. It easily fits into the polar shaft housing and a really cool feature is that it has both the northern and southern hemisphere circumpolar constellations/asterisms etched into the reticle. I might add that these star patterns are to scale with the magnification of the alignment scope. It isn't illuminated but I don't find that a problem. I previously owned a Vixen GP Mount and bought the Vixen polar alignment scope for it. That scope cost over twice as much as this one and it had a standard crosshair reticle rather than the constellation patterns. It was, however, illuminated, (albeit with a penlight flashlight). I like this one much better.
Pros: Easy to install, easy to use.
Cons: Not illuminated.
