Very poor fit

by Glen from NV, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on April 16, 2022
My GI Inland M1 Carbine (not the current commercial version) would not fit in this stock as received. The fit against the bottom right edge of the receiver was far too shallow, not allowing the receiver to drop all the way into place. The fit in the area of the recoil plate is VERY poor; I won't be surprised to see damage in this area in relatively few rounds. The inlet for the tang is too narrow and far too long from front to rear. The shelf that supports the recoil plate is too high, causing the recoil plate to sit at an upward angle. At the right rear corner of the receiver, the stock material appears bent upwards, leaving a substantial gap between the stock material and the rear of the receiver. Over an hour's work was required to get this stock anywhere near a good fit and the job isn't done yet.

This is a far cry from the similar Choate carbine stock that I purchased just a few years back which was a perfect drop-in for a GI Carbine. I'm sad to see that Choate can't mold a stock for the M1 carbine any more and won't buy another one. I cannot recommend purchasing this stock unless you are prepared to correct the poor inlet molding.
Pros:
  • Sturdy and light weight
  • Stock material isn't affected by humidity
Cons:
  • Very poor receiver to stock fit
Best Used for:
  • If you have a "beater" M1 Carbine
