Nice upgrade with minor issues
I took off 1 star because the hand guard didn't fit my 580 Series Mini 14 when I first tried to install it. The thickness and shape of the collar on the handguard that fits under the front part of the rifle was too thick and required some minor sanding and an Xacto knife. It wasn't difficult and the work is un-noticeable when installed. It looks great, the clip fit perfectly, and I'm very happy with the results. This is how the Mini 14 should have come from the factory! Worth every penny.
Excellent product!
Well made and does a great job ventilating barrel heat. Fits perfectly with no fitting required as long as the steel barrel clamp isn't bent, but Id imagine that'd be rare since its quite durable steel, but you could just use some pliers to reform in to where it fits snug over the barrel. Make sure to loosen the front barrel/front sling swivel caps so you can slide the front part of the handguard under the top cap, then the rest of the handguard will fall into place perfectly, once in place, screw down the swivel caps and it'll be rock solid and tight.

Same as Original
I had one of the Federal Ordinance originals on a 181 series Mini-14 in the late 1970s. This copy is exactly the same and fits my 580 series perfectly.

Its just ok
The hand guard fits fine, but it looks like its just made a bit cheaper than maybe i should be. Maybe im used to the quality of the Ruger OEM parts, but its feels like it left something to be desired. Hats off to OpticsPlanet though for the fast shipping!

A superior ventilated hand guard
This hand guard dissipates heat so much better than the stock Ruger hand guard.

Well Made, Looks Way Better than Factory
This is a well made product that is much nicer than the disappointing factory guard (Model 580+). The polymer is thick, it snaps into place without tools, and it looks great. The fit was a bit tight at the ends, so I had to sand one end slightly and it dropped snugly into place. Note: It's obvious from the description photos, but it doesn't have the goofy looking slide guard hanging asymmetrically over one side. This exposes the slide, which looks nicer to me, but if you're one of those people that sticks your fingers into electric outlets and fans, this isn't for you (:-D)

Exposes slide assembly
I bought this product after finding numerous internet posts saying the product is a cheap and easy way to modify a Mini-14 into something more “tactical”, while also providing better venting for the barrel. However, when I installed the product, I immediately noticed that a large portion of the slide assembly, which was covered by the original hand guard, is left exposed. This means there’s a very large piece of metal sliding back and forth while the firearm is cycling right next to where my hand would be placed. Purely for cautionary reasons, I removed the hand guard and put it in the spare parts bin.

Mini14 580 series
Just received this order in the mail and fits like a glove. Its made out of polymer also has a great feel to it.Proper clearance for the slide, oversized ports to allow proper cooling for the Barrel. Definitely would recommend product
