Future of Weaponlights is Here
Ultimate performance doesn't come cheap. But if you have spent money on weaponlights that couldn't deliver when you needed them, the OWL is the answer to your problems.
Awesome value for the price. You get a robust, modular, ambidextrous weaponlight with integrated mount that is pushing out serious lumens and candela so you can see everything in almost any condition. On top of that they include a battery charger and 2 different batteries.
The tailcap being the tool for the mount is an excellent touch.
After having my SF DF scout light come up short in a LFT class, I decided to pay for the best.
Wish I could afford 2 or 3 more of these but for now the one is enough.

So, let's address the elephant in the room. People are taking stars away from a product they acknowledge is exceptional because the product doesn't come with a hard case and the more fancy digital charger. I went to cloud defenses website and the optics planet version of the owl light comes with th...

Cloud Defensive Owl
I have been looking forward to getting the OWL for quite sometime now. I searched around on a bunch of sites for about the last 4 months and ultimately went with optics planet because there price was on the lower end and they have a good reputation with the guys I work with. The light arrived relati...

User Friendly and Tough.
It is a very simple setup. The ability to switch the light from left to right is a nice feature, though I kept it in right hand configuration. In the years that I have had it,it has not failed me once as long as I check the batteries from time to time. Good throw. Gives me all the light I need for defense encounters. However, one of the issues with having the switch design to sit on the rail next to the light is that it can limit your options if you intend to run other devices like IR iluminators/designator. It can also limit how far you can have your light near the end of the rifle since the switch needs to be close enough to your hand to be comfortably activated. I have it on a CMMG Banshee with an 8" barrel, so it works fine for my needs. But it won't please everyone. It is also a little on the heavy side. If I had to be completely honest, it is a tad pricey for what it does. It does make up for most of it with its easy design, batteries that allow you to recharge, and sheer ruggedness. If you want something simplistic, reliable, and possibly for a short setup, this would be a sound choice. But it won't be ideal for every role.
Pros:
- ambidextrous
- very bright
- very durable
- Good throw
- Rechargeable Batteries
- Responsive and easy controls
Cons:
- a bit heavy
- a little too expensive
- Drains batteries gradually when not in use
- Limits other device options
Best Used for:
- Patrol Rifles
- Short barreled setups
- Basic defense setups
Would recommend: Yes
Cloud Defensive Owl
I have a military friend who referred this weapon light to me. I love the modularity; in less then a minute I can unscrew it and thread it onto a different rifle. In addition the lights inner beam isn't so bright that it blurs out the target. Only downside is the battery takes a very long time to charge but we will see how long it holds power?
Pros:
- Price
- Warranty
- Modularity
Cons:
- Charge time
Best Used for:
- camping
- home defence
- Flash light
Would recommend: Yes
Waited For Nothing
I back ordered an OWL in FDE months ago and finally received it. Unfortunately it is some sort of dark grey mixed with purple and nowhere close to FDE, coyote or tan. The box says FDE but this is definitely not. Please note I did not test it or do anything else with it. You don’t realize how heavy it is until you hold the box. If the color was correct I’d still keep it for one of my SBR’s but I’m returning it. The price has changed since I ordered this and I’m not interested in dealing with an exchange, or waiting months more for a replacement.
Pros:
- Rugged looking
Cons:
- Heavy
- Expensive
- wrong color
- Not packaged very well
Best Used for:
- Self defense
Would recommend: No

Highly Recommend
You get a cardboard box, one battery and a basic charger. That being said, you should buy this for the light itself and the integrated mount/switch. If you ever take it off, you can rest assured just stuffing it in a bag anyway.
Pros:
- Integrated mount and endcap tool make installation simple and fast. Bulletproof construction
- Integrated mount and endcap tool
Cons:
- Not thin
Best Used for:
- Making targets inside 100 yards bright af.
Would recommend: Yes
Great package if you like to swap between guns
So this is not the smallest or lightest light package, but it is plenty bright and has a good light spread. If you have several carbines you want share one light for this is the way to go. Would recommend

RUGGED LIGHT
The owl light is very rugged and you can see man sized objects out to 300 yards. With the duability comes a price, the light is kinda heavy on the front of your weapon. The built in switch and reversability makes this light stand out as one of the best available.
Pros:
- Durability
- Range
- No cables
Cons:
- Heavy
- price
- Yellow light
Best Used for:
- End of the world gun
Would recommend: Yes
great weapon light!
Great light for indoor/outdoor home protection, warm color, long throw and wide effective area all contribute to easy target aqcuisition, identification and deterrent. The housing is extremely durable and requires next to no setup other than mounting, the pressure switch is a little harder to press than most but is consistent and simple. One quick press turns on the light and a constant pressure holds the light on until pressure is released making room clearance a breeze.
Pros:
- Durable (good luck breaking it)
- color of light
- candela
- throw range
- simple setup
Cons:
- mediocre pressure switch
Best Used for:
- home defense firearms
Would recommend: Yes

These guys make some of the best lights out. They are innovative and solid. Yes they are pricey but they last and that’s all you can ask for. They have a bunch of different options. I will keep buying their stuff.

solid and innovative
I own a few of these and they are solid. Save rail space and the light is super bright. The light and design are innovative. I have one on each of my guns. Definitely my favorite light out on the market.
Pros:
- compact
Cons:
- price
Would recommend: Yes
Great light, but you don’t get what is advertised
The light itself is fantastic, however you do not get a hard shell case or the charger depicted or the car charger, or the wall charger. I do not know if this is a change by cloud defense or Opticsplanet, but the description clearly advertises it one way and you receive it another. The missing items definitely lower the value, I would check with other suppliers before purchasing here.
Pros:
- LIght is great and very bright
Cons:
- False advertising
Would recommend: Yes
