DPS's Review of CMMG, Inc 22LR AR Conversion Kit, Bravo, Left Hand

I was hesitant to buy this conversion kit because I have an Osprey gas piston kit on my Bushmaster Carbine M4. The piston rod extends into the receiver which cycles the bolt carrier.

After installing the kit I took the rifle to my shooting club and fed about 25 rounds through it without any misfeeds or cycling issues. I have a Romeo 7 red dot scope on the carbine and after a few minor adjustments to windage I was hitting bullseye at 20 yards or about 60 ft. This is accurate enough for squirrel and rabbit hunting.

I am very pleased with the conversion bolt. However the three 10 round magazines are the same size as a 5.56 30 round magazine which makes it hard to shoot from the bench. I called CMMG to tell them that I like the conversion bolt but not the long magazines. They told me that another company sells 10 round magazines that are the same size as the 5.56 10 round magazines. They have no plans to make their 10 round magazines any shorter.

The kit that I bought has three long 10 round magazines. I'll likely see all three on eBay and buy two of the shorter 10 round magazine and two of the long 25 round magazines.
Pros:
  • Easy to convert back to 5.56
  • Easy drop in
  • .22 ammo much cheaper to use than 5.56 or .223
Cons:
  • 10 round magazine is as long as 30 round 5.56 magazine and cannot be used on the bench
  • CMMG does not market short 10 round magazine
Best Used for:
  • Training, hunting, plinking, sport shooting
