I bought this light to upgrade from a Streamlight LED pen light. The amount of light this puts out is excellent for its size. It is exceedingly bright for the size and weight. The HP5 is nice and compact which lends itself well to every day carry and the fit and finish are very nice. It also uses a standard AA battery which I like much better than pricey and sometimes challenging to find CR123A type. I have two other Coast flashlights which I love - the HP17 and the HP7R of which both focus and lock focus with a quick turn of the lens end. This one does not lock, it has a nice amount of resistance to move so that the focus is held, but no lock. The other two lights have low and strobe modes, but I don't miss those features on a light this small. With the addition of a lock this would no doubt be a five star flashlight. Good job Coast, but not great. Perhaps the price point reflects the features.
