I own several soft rifle cases. My opinion of this condor 42" case is; it's well made and designed from rugged durable and light weight materials. The stitching is strong, the zippers are strong, there are plenty of pockets and smaller pockets inside those. There are also large wide pockets held closed by Velcro located inside a zipped compartment. A good place for maps and license. The rifle compartment is protected by a reasonably thick layer of dense foam. I wish there was a harder material for still more protection. I wouldn't drop test it but it should do fine on a hike. I think this foam will provide reasonably good protection for the thermal optic. I don't have any real negative areas to point at.
