Expert Review Not there yet - Covert Optics ThermX HS1 Handheld Thermal Scanner

Mini mountable thermals are becoming more common and accessible, so I keep trying different ones hoping to find a winner.

Sadly most of them aren't delivering in the performance aspect and to be fair it is probably because most of us have unrealistic expectations.

This thermal scanner is a useful tool to have in the pocket or pack while hunting, whether thats to find game or track the animal after the shot.

Trying to press this product into other roles like a secondary sighting system on a firearm is only going to lead to disappointment. But it is a cool concept and ability to pop this thermal into a standard riflescope ring.

Definitely bring extra batteries with you since any prolonged use of this unit drains them dry quickly.

Overall I like this better than the LCO i used to have and I like it more than the Torrey Pines units i have played with but overall this category is still not where I want it to be.
