Boomer's Review of Crimson Trace Laserguard Pro Laser / 150 Lumen LED White Light

Crimson Trace has really outdone themselves with this one. I love my Shield with a Shield RMS milled into the slide and this Laserguard pro just finishes off what is in my opinion the optimal carry gun. I have used everything from the Viridian “instant on” light/laser to the Lasermax “grip sense” technology that trys to improve upon the actuation of the light/laser but in my experience they just dont equate to the performance and reliability of the Crimson Trace. There have been multiple times with both Viridian and Lasermax where they just didnt turn on when they were designed to which leads to having to fiddle with batteries and buttons to get them to operate again. That is something that is unacceptable for a carry gun where if you need your gun you need it immediately and you need it to work immediately. The Laserguard is in my experience the only light/laser that has never not worked, especially after a long hot sweaty day of carrying where other products tended to malfunction. The light is the perfect brightness and doesnt wash out the Shield red dot indoors against a white wall, and the green laser is also the perfect intensity to pick up with your eye instantly. The only con I can even think of, and its pretty nit picky anyway, is the battery change procedure requires unscrewing and unmounting the unit from the triggerguard and that can lead to stripped out screw heads after some time and a couple battery changes. The batteries, however, last for a long period of time in between changes so its really a non issue, especially if you use the correct tools to prevent stripping the screw heads. All in all it is hands down the best option for a S&W Shield and many other small pistols for people who want utter reliability and usability in a small easily concealable package on a small easily concealed pistol.
Pros:
  • Perfect brightness and laser intensity, stone cold reliable, fits the gun like it was made by S&W
  • Perfect brightness and laser intensity, stone cold reliable, fits the gun like S&W made it themselves, free batteries for life
Cons:
  • Battery change requires unscrewing and unmounting from the gun which can strip screw heads after a couple battery changes
Best Used for:
  • Edc, home defense
