Ronbo's Review of Crimson Trace CMR-201 Rail Master Red Laser Sight w/ Universal Mount

This was my first laser sight purchase, but I researched extensively before buying a unit and considered even semi-professional grade laser sights in the $750 to $800 price range, but decided to try the Crimson Trace product based on glowing reviews of others. I am using this mounted on the top rail of an AR-15 up front on the top rail near an angled foregrip and side-mounted Surefire Scout flashlight mounted where all the light and laser controls are extremely easy to reach without taking my hand off the angled foregrip. The Crimson Trace universal rail-mount laser appears to be well made and the on-off controls feel surprisingly solid and well made for such a tiny unit. It performs thus far in all respects like I would expect a laser sight to perform. I cannot comment yet on how well it holds zero under heavy shooting or stands up under abuse, or just how waterproof it is, but I am optimistic that it will pass muster based on what I have seen thus far. I am actually pleasantly surprised at this quality for such a small price. I had concerns about the quality of other brands of lasers in this price range. I do not have this concern now with Crimson Trace products, but have generally concluded that Crimson Trace products are well made, a good value for the money, suitable for serious civilian defense use, and I will be outfitting other firearms with Crimson Trace lasers.
Pros:
  • Tiny footprint, solid controls that work perfectly, lightweight
Cons:
  • None
